Got my Yamaha RX-V667 from US. The primary use of this amp would be to do HDMI switching between multiple sources and signal processing to feed my external multichannel amp set up and a HD projector.

Quite a neat amp with great specs and functionality. The HDMI processing and switching quality is very good. Ease of use is typical Yamaha and looks good as well.

My only disappointment is around the falling standards of build quality over the years of these vendors. There is tremendous cost cutting, increased usage of plastic and optimising various things. Every successive model has more cost cuts. This Yamaha does not come even with a user manual (except quick-start guide) and instead you get a CD which has the manual.

Unless there is a great deal of change in technology, one is well advised to keep away from upgrading from a previous model to the next one.

Cheers.

Congrats... heard lots of good things about the RX-V667 especially since the last version RX-V665 sort of fizzled out...

Any idea how much the RX-V667 costs in India. (via proper channel with bill and warranty)?

from what I understand it is around 42K from Savoy Electronics. I got it for around 32K including duties from US via Borderlinx.

Congratz on the purchase bro.....heard its very close to the 663 in terms of sonic presentation. How are u enjoying it ?I really love my 663 for music,so this should be an all-rounder as well.

I got it for around 32K including duties from US via Borderlinx.

How much was the US$ price for V667 when you purchased yours?

It is 450 USD now and when I feed all values into BorderLinx cost calculator (including package dimensions), the landed cost is coming around Rs.27,000.

Did you purchase in US at a higher cost?

OR

Is this yet another case of Borderlinx jacking up the estimate (in their words correcting to reflect actuals) than what is displayed in their cost calculator once they receive the items in the warehouse (leaves us with no choice than agree to whatever Borderlinx dictates).

OFFTOPIC: Do we get the US warranty/International warranty cards and original purchase receipts when you purchase via Borderlinx?

I bought it for USD469 thru ebay. Came in completely sealed condition with carton staples etc. I have warranty and invoice from the ebay yamaha reseller.

Costed me total of 32K with Borderlinx.

For others looking for V667, a little birdie from Chennai has reported availability of RX-V667 with India bill and warranty for ~39K from Music Square.

Did anyone find a better price in India?

buddy which is the convertor or step down transformer u r using...am getting the same amp through my friend...will land here on 24 dec 10...

There are many brands. Check this forum for step down transformer. I use a Bangalore brand called 'Vishal'.

My only piece of advice is that you should buy a "Isolation transformer' type of step down transformer (which basically has one primary winding and a secondary winding) and not go for a autotransformer type model (which has a single winding with a tap of 220v and 110v). Isolation type models are safe to use with expensive audio equipment.

Cheers.

Can someone with RX-V667 confirm whether it has any indicators on the front panel display for different audio formats (Dolby-Digital, DTS, TrueHD, DTS-MA...)?

I can find them through on-screen display (Information-> Audio Signal) but it does not look like it displays the audio format on the front panel display. Or is there any setting that I'm missing?

If your BD/DVD/PS3 is decoding the audio within it and sending pcm out then you will only see the pcm logo onthe front panel....if you have set your players to bitstream then you will see different logos for Dolby/Dts /DTS HDMA/ DTS HR etc.... at least that is the case with my 663

I've POHD and a HTPC as sources and both are set to Passthrough/Bitstream respectively.

While I can see the status of the digital audio signal through on-screen display (OSD)(Setup->Information-> Audio Signal), no such information is displayed on the V667 front panel display...wierd? It always shows CinemaDSP

Thanks...The problem is resolved now after a defaults reset. For some reason, my receiver was not getting into straight mode earlier.

It now displays all Digital Audio all information on the front panel except DTS HD-MA which keeps going out of lock. I remember reading somewhere that POHD have issues in piping DTS HD-MA reliably (the audio stutters) with the current firmware.
