Hello,
I dont know much about TV's, but after reading some threads on LCD tv's. I have one question; why buy full HD tv's when there is no darn content?

Scenario 1: TS/BigTv blah blah: HDReady is better than FHD.

Reference: "now all FHD tvs will suck for SD,and since u want to see primarly see SD content then get a HD ready tv"(http://www.hifivision.com/television/2216-panasonic-viera-32-lx800-vs-samsung-series-5-a-2.html)

Scenario 2: DVD's: The maximum res one can get seems to be 720 ? 576 pixels in MPEG-2 at 25 fps(PAL). No need for FHD.

Scenario 3: HD-DVD: Titles available. What about players? Besides, poor bugger is dead.

Scenario 4: Blue Ray: Some titles are available, but current availability/pricing is really sad.

Should we still go ahead and purchase FHD's or do something like venkat, go for a back up HDR now (~32inchers seem real attractive :D)[http://www.hifivision.com/television/2292-cheapest-32-lcd.html], save up for the big FHD when things are better?

Cheers,
Saikat.

correct correct.....Full HD is a BIT of a waste.....but one thing you forget is the availability of 1080p upscaled DVD images from even budget DVD players these days. Agreed these are not genuine Full HD.....but these will definitely look better on a Full HD TV than a HD Ready provided the TV is large enough.....generally the difference should be noticeable from 42" onwards. So in such a case a Full HD TV would have an advantage. But even at 42" the differences are very very small.....possibly 50" and above the differences will be apparent enough to make a material difference to your viewing experience.

Agreed, but.... if you are spending north of 50k for a >=42 inch FHD TV, hope the associated upscaling equipment is darn good to justify the price tag of the TV.

My philosophy spend generously once go full HD and keep it forever:D. Well mastered dvd's upscaled/deinterlaced to 1080p using a above average upscaler faroudja to reon to anchorbay will look really great imho.

Im using anchorbay in Oppo 983H, im content at this level till blu ray is a practical reality by which i mean regular bollywood releases in 1080P.

true........and for a 42" or above Full HD you should i think say 70k or more.... the scalers on them should be good......but like i said, the fact that it upscales to Full HD will be a discernible difference from upscaling to 720p or 1080i....provided you have a large enough screen to see it.

Agreed, but.... if you are spending north of 50k for a >=42 inch FHD TV, hope the associated upscaling equipment is darn good to justify the price tag of the TV.
