20north.com! Anyone bought anything yet?

From my experience, 20north is better than ebay Global. 20north may be having some problems regarding delivery of duty paid purchases. But for purchases made as gift they deliver fast. They have not cancelled any order after receipt of payment whereas ebay Global canclled both orders I made on Technical reasons. 20north may be new in the business but experienced Ebay made my interaction with them just ordinary.

I am interested in Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K if someone knows who is dealing and the prices.

but do take care of thier pricing , the same products cud be sourced @ half the rates from grey market (eg--the pioneer BDP lx52 is priced @ 55k ,it can be got for 30-32k from grey market,,such is the price diff)

Recentely I had made a special order request on 20north and it was learned from them that, they are following the fixed exchange rate of Rs 50 per dollar for calculation purpose. They also load 15% service charge for special order on the price of item including shipping costs to their warehouse in US. Now two things needs clarification..
1)When the dollar rate keep on fluctuating everyday (may be below Rs 47 today) is it good business practice to fix it voluntarily at Rs 50? Or should it be in sync with the prevelent rate on the day of the order?
2)The 15% service charges can be on the cost of the product. Or may be 20% as desired by 20north. Why the Indian customer need to pay 15% on shipping costs to their warehouse in US?
I would like to know what forum members want to say on this.

This might be due to the business norms, turnover versus profit... me not an accountant, any members in that line could comment...

I think there is a Pioneer distributor in Bangalore who sells them. Lakozy in Mumbai has a couple in stock. Alfa can get them in the grey market

Lakozy dosent have pioneers in stock. Simialrly Alfa also cannot get, hence no Kuros available in Mumbai now.

If anyone has any leads do let me know or I will have to settle for Panny V10 as soon as its in stock (currently no time frame promised by dealer)

The answer is simple. Simply refuse to buy. There are so many things I can buy with money to spare, but I dont and havent for the last 2 years ...

Any specialized service is always sellers market.These guys are not for charity but for making money.ANd in this type of services margins need to be huge.
Anyway as gobble says and comman sense is -20 North is not forcing you - so do not buy - find a lesser cost source ( and let us know hyeah or ask someone to get from us - or visit us!!!

I am not on 20 north's side but please understand that in spcialised services there are some risks involved . and if you try sourcing on your own ( now it becomes far easier) you will understand hassles like relatives cannot handcarry big items as there is weight or size restriction or in many cases he do not want .

So in the end rates are good if you think so or do not buy......

Yes, that is exactly what happened with me. My Brother-In-Law expressed his helplessness recentely when he came back from US & I turned to 20north.

I had orderd a pair of bookshelf speakers on 16.11.09 as a special order. The E bay seller shipped the pair in 2 individual boxes to 20north and they were received by 20north on 19.11.09.( I have the UPS tracking no for both). What i received from 20north is one single speaker on 30.11.09. When I called them, I was asked the question who told you it was pair?. When I sent them the emails details I received from ebay seller, 20north agreed to send the remaining speaker in 7 days. When 7 days expired, I wrote them a mail, now this time 20north asked for 10 more days. When additional 10 days expired, I wrote another mail.(i.e. on 16.11.09). 20north replied to get details from US and would send me a feedback on 17.11.09 afternoon. It is 18.11.09 afternoon and no reply... In last 15 days, 20north might have shipped many shipments from US to Bangalore but not mine even after commiting serious lapse and non fulfillment of Customer Order. Any one there in 20north answerable to this.....

I ordered a Logitech Harmony 900 Remote, and the PS3 Adapter from 20North earlier this year, and the products were delivered before the promise date. Also got the 5% hifivision discount by entering hifivision in the coupon box... overall, very satisfied with their service. I would suggest that you just pay the customs duty to save the headache associated with gift items.. You do end up paying a little bit more but it saves you a lot of headache!
