Hi Frens,

Living Hall size in feet.

Length = 20
Width = 13
Height = 9

Equipment:

Optoma HD65
Screen 110 or 120 Diagonal
Yamaha AVR RX V-450
Denon DVD 1940

Im planning a new 5.1 setup for the above mentioned living hall.

The Setup will be used 100 % for Movies.

I ve narrowed down a few combinations..

1. Wharfedale 9.1 + 9 CS/CM + 9 DFS/9.0 + SW 150
2. Wharfedale 10.1 + 10 CS/CM + 10 DFS/10.0 + SW 150
3. PSB Alpha B1 + Alpha C1 + Alpha LR1 + Subseries 5i

Im yet to hear any of the combinations above. I have a few queries which you guys could help me with

1. Since the 10.1 is rear ported will it make the screen move/wave when in operation ? As the speakers will be slightly in front of the screen and towed in.

In that case is it wiser to go with the 9.1 combination ?

2. The 9.1 is quite old which makes me wonder if it is the right choice at this point in time?!?

3. Should I get the 9/10 DFS or the 9.0/10.0 for Surround Sound Duty ?

4. Will these speakers be able to fill the Room Size mentioned or do I need larger Speakers ?

5. Any current owners of the above mentioned combinations could give some feedback.

6. Any other packages I should consider ?

Thanks. ;-)

What do you think of Q Acoustics . ?

Q Acoustics 2000 Cinema Package is priced @ Rs.53,500 + VAT + 5% for Gloss Finish(if required)...
You can add Front Floor Standers if you want, but with your above requirements and amplifier i think the bookshelf package should do...

You can add on QED cables for High Quality Sound...

Hi,

Im consider the Q Acoustics 2000

How ever it seems that the 2070S Subwoofer is suspect to problemsIt seems some people in UK had to undergo failed Subs & replacements.

Can you tell me where I can Demo the Q Acoustics 2000 in Delhi?

Im keen on it since it won the best speaker package award at What Hifi last year.

But I also noticed that the Wharfedele 10.1 won the product of the year & won the best speaker award in a slightly higher price category than the Q Acoustics 2010. Which
makes me believe that the 10.1 should be slightly better than the 2010.

However there is no review of a 5.1 Package based on 10.1/10 CS/ 10 DFS/ SW 150. But there is a review available for the Q Acoustics 2000 as a complete package and it has also won Product of the year.

So you can see this confuses me. lol

Id really like to hear out the Q Acoustics 2000 before i decide. Who is the dealor/distributor for the same & where can i demo it in delhi?

Thanks

6. Any other packages I should consider ?

Thanks. ;-)

Consider Sonodyne Package Sonus 2605 FS 3 way (22K) / Sonus 2504 FS 2 way (19K) + Center Channel (5K) + Dipole surrounds (9K) + Sonodyne Subwoofer SLF 200 A (23K) with remote.

Home Audio > Genie Series

Studio > SM Series

This package should be better as it almost close to a full scale HT. I have recommended this setup to my friend who will be getting this in a months time.

Thats something new you brought to my point... as we were nt aware of it...
I will surely get updates from the parent company in UK, but as far in India till date we have not faced any issues...

You can demo the same @ Gemini Traders, Barakhamba Road, Ashoka Estate... +9311155528...

But am nt sure how it will sound in there, as there seems to be some issues with his acoustics treatment, as mentioned by other members...
bt u can go and have a demo atleast...

Q Acoustics 1000, 1000i and 2000 series have won 5 star and best speaker package under Rs.75,000 or GBP 600 worldwide continuously from past 6yrs...

Today i heard the following Setups...

1. Wharfedale 9.1 + 9 CS + 9 DFS + SW 150

I liked the sound... Very smooth and mellow... but forward enough to make movies sound good. The demo room was the same size as my installation hall so it kind of gave me an idea as to how it will sound at my place.

2. Wharfedale 10.1 + 10 CS + 10 DFS + SW 150

This sounded more like a movie sound than the 9.1 setup. The sound was more forward and much more exciting. It felt more alive and more in your face than the 9.1 setup which was lacking the dynamics and forwardness of the 10.1.

However i felt the 10 CS was not very clear as far as dialogue was concerned. My brother who went with me did not notice the same but i felt that the 9 CS was clearer than the 10 CS.

Now i understand that the 50-60 % of the sound comes from the center and it is the most important speaker in a 5.1 setup hence i'm kind of in a confusion because of these reasons.....

1. The 9.1 AV Package had won 5 stars with the what hifi many years ago and my assumption is that the 10.1 AV Package should also be 5 stars however there is no reviews available of the Wharfedale 10.1 + 10 CS + 10 DFS + SW 150 as a 5.1 package

2. Also... although its little brother package 9HCP (Based on 9.0 & 9 CC) had won "Best Speaker Package Awards 2005".....

However the 10HCP package (Based on 10.0 & 10 CC) got a review of only 4 stars at what hifi and they said....

"Centre channel could integrate better & The 10.CC centre channel doesn't gel with its 10.0 brethren as well as it could. You find yourself too aware of the role it is playing in the package. Dialogue sounds a tad closed-in and lacks clarity."

This makes me wonder if the 10 CS is also suspect to "lack clarity & not gel well with 10.1.... ?!?

Any owners of 10 CS wanting to share there experiences...?!?

Thanks

For your room size, I recommend FS.

Consider Monitor Audio if you have the budget.

Else Wharf 9.5 + 9.2 + Center should cost around 55k

Also consider B&W if you can fit in your budget. They sound superb, although probably not the most accurate.

Monitor Audio is really good to.

For movies, Polk Audio > Wharfedale (obviously situation dependent).

I would also recommend:

Polk TSI300 FS pair 18k
Polk TSI100 BS pair 10k approx
Polk Center TSI 10k+
The sub woofer would really be optional, but if you want one, then you can consider Polk PSW 125 for about 18k. Although, IMO budget sub woofers are crap.

I heard the Polk Tsi Combination today....

It sounded too Bright & Forward... I would say the sound was way too "Shrill"...!!

I don't think i could last a 2 hr Action Movie with the Tsi Combination... :-(

1. Guys any suggestions of a 5.1 Setup upto Rs 75000....?!?

Thanks

Also try Polk RTi.

Monitor Audio will be one step ahead of Polk and still in your budget.

B&W is a little out of your budget, esp if you really want a sub woofer as well.

Where the polks burned in?. If they are new then I can understand why they would
have sounded shrill.

I auditioned the polk tsi 300 recently (along with Denon stereo amplifier) and found
the combination very musical.

well i guess they had burn in.... maybe not...

But it was just way too bright for my liking.... though some might prefer that sound ;-)

Buddy

Then i think you should try Dali...
Though they are a bit over than your budget...But they are soft...

I would have as earlier suggested you Q Acoustics, as they are soft too, but the problem is your location...The demo setup in Delhi is not as good as it should be...

@ mridulgoel

1. Could you tell me which particular Dali Combination are you suggesting....

2. I'll surely try the Q Acoustics 2000 package as well...

Thanks

For movies i would highly recommend KEF IQ series, very detailed, non fatigue, wide sound stage. The only concern is you need to invest on a good sub. KEFs will not shine much in the low end. I preferred KEF IQ5 against Paradigm Monitor, Monitor Audio, MS Mezzo 6, Dali Ikon. I find KEF hi's to be sweet and unique when compared to others:licklips:. I recommend you to try a burnt KEF fresh one may tend to sound slightly forward.

For your budget you shall try
KEF IQ5 or similar successor - Fronts
KEF IQ2C or similar successor - Center
KEF IQ1 or similar successor (or) IQ8DS if you shall extend your budget - Rear

Good Luck.

@ techboy..

B&W is way too overpriced ...

Anyways guys...

Today i heard the following Mordaunt Short Combination....

Aviano 1 + Aviano 5 ( Center ) + Aviano 1 Surrounds + Aviano 7 ( Sub ) + Cambridge AVR

- I was not impressed.
- It sounded pretty dull. ( I thought MS speakers were supposed to be Bright )
- but the Center seemed very clear with dialogue & details.
- Subwoofer didn't excite me.

My search has so far not found me any worthy combination....
