5.1 Setup for Rs 50000 - 70000

If you can extend your budget a little

2 x B&W 686
Center
Sub

The total price would be like 80-90k.

Where can this package be had for that price? I thought the bookshelves themeselves cost close to 40k for a pair. Ditto for the sub. Considering that, this is great pricing. But wouldnt it be difficult for an AVR to drive these, unless very powerful? I mean these are notorious for low sensitivity and being power hungry.
Which AVR did you hear this with? How did it sound?

686 are for about 30k per pair I think.

The center and sub won't be of B&W, they will be from Polk/Whaf/Sonodyne.

For the receiver, probably a Marantz 5004 or higher for like 30k+ or so.

So a total around 120k.

What ? where are you getting 686 for 30k?

And are you planning to pair polks sonodyne as centre n sub with B&Ws

120k :eek:budget I think OP clearly mentioned 50-70k and 120k advice more than a lil streach .....

@ techboy

I believe that even the Monitor Audio are highly overpriced...!!!

@ fellow members

guys the budget is upto 70-75k without the AVR as i already have a Yamaha RX V450.

I don't agree with Monitor Audio's being overpriced. If they are overpriced then you can't buy from the consumer market because Polk, Wharfedale, Tannoy, Paradigm all are overpriced.

Monitor Audio's are some of the most VFM speakers out there.

BR2 is supposed to cost around 15k. Tell me one speaker which can compete it at this price point? :P

Also, consider Usher S520.

techboy, Wharfedale and Mission have prices that are reasonable while other British brands like Tannoy, QA etc sell at close to double the price in UK. I am not sure the MA BR2 can be had for 15k either. Unless they slash prices since the new BX series is here.

The Usher s520 retails for 22k. Its a good speaker to suggest, however, 2 pairs would cost 44k, add to that the cost of centre channel at 20k and any decent entry level sub at 20k again would set you back by 80k for the package.

Hi,
The tannoy F4 and F1 custom speakers has been now upgraded to tannoy mercury V4 and V1.
Even i am looking to buy one of these speakers.( My other option wharfedale diamond 9)
The price i got for 7.0 setup is 70000/-
Contents: 1 pair Mercury V4 tower, 1 pair Mercury V1, 1 pair Mercury VR, 1 Mercury centre. Check out its demo and even i would like to hear the review of it.

Today i heard this combination...

Q acoustics 1050 + 1000 C + 1010i Surrounds + Yamaha AVR 863.

- The sound was very very good. It had a Bite to it. It was like a complete movie sound. I didn't get that sound with the wharfedele or the MS Aviano setup.

- And most importantly the Center was simply superb. The Dialouge was absolutely clean & detailed. It was much crisper & cleaner than the wharf 10 CS & Aviano Center 5.

- I'm gonna go again in a weeks time as the dealor would have the 2000 series 5.1 package by then. I guess if i liked the 1000 series then the 2000 series should be 10-15% better.

Guys whats your experience with the Q Acoustics 2000 as compared to others in the same price range ? Any owners out there ?

I have heard their speakers from the 1000 series and found them pretty good. Not yet auditioned 2000 series.

Guys it seems in the UK the BR2 5.1 package is selling for almost half their original price since the new BX2 have come out.....

Any such deals in India for the BR2 based 5.1 package...?!?

guys,

i've been thinking....

will the Q Acoustics 2000 package or the PSB Alpha studio theater package be able to fill my

room size = 20 x 15 x 9 ?!?

Both of the above mentioned packages have book shelves for the left & right channel. Will they fill the room well or should i look at upgrading to the towers from the same series....??

Although room length is 20 feet the actual viewing distance is 13-15 feet. So does that matter in the equation ? or does it nt matter where you sit and the speakers will have to fill the room anyways?

My point being since i'm sitting at 15 feet.. should i consider the room length to be 15 feet or is it still 20 feet ? Would the bookshelves struggle to fill it ?

thanks.

In the 5.1 category have you guys not heard about the mordaunt short genie 5.1 speakers.they sounded pretty good to me.
What are your views?

I shan't call this a risk, but an extremely efficient and VFM combination from all perspectives. I have been giving it a serious thought, but due to no use at my end am not implementing the same.

Why don't you guys try this combo .......

Front left and right speakers ... JBL Control 1 ... price @ 6.5 k/pair
Rear left and right speakers .... JBL Control 1 .... price @ 6.5 /pair
Centre speaker ... 3 way JBL again .... price @ 10-12 k
Select a rip roaring subwoofer from ... HSU / Velodyne / SVS .. check price, should be @ 40 k.

The above can and WILL fill any room @ upto 300 sq ft. without stressing the AVR by much.

Am very impressed with the JBL Control 1 speakers. Using it currently with a Topping TP20.

Audition the above, if possible.

a funny question but been on my mind...

if my room size is 20 x 15 x 9

and length being 20 feet....

if my viewing distance is 15 feet then does the room length become 15 feet or is it still 20 feet ?

trying to figure this out since i'm having second thoughts about whether a Bookshelf in front will do or will i need floorstanders ?

Important aspect is that i'm mostly getting the SVS pc 12 nsd sub. and that i believe is a lot of bass. So 2 questions then...

1. if my viewing distance is 15 feet then does the room length become 15 feet or is it still 20 feet ?

2. Bookshelves will do or should i look at floorstanders for the front ?

Thanks ;-)

Have you auditioned paradigms 7's or 9's you can get those for front and CC190 for center and the ADP srnds in rear..

Just audition this combo if possible.

The room length is still 20ft.
Bookshelves would also do the job. See to it that you use a powerful subwoofer.

yes... paradigm has been on the periphery of my mind but no one suggested them till now.... are they not popular in the forums....

i just spoke to the paradigm dealor here in delhi and he's arranging a monitor 5.1 setup demo for me in a few days...

am i better off with tower monitors 5.1 setup or studio bookshelf 5.1 setup...?

If you have a room with minimal acoustic treatment towers will do just fine... You can also ask him to arrange a cinema 110 ct package for audition . Just so you know the difference ...

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
