Dear HFV members,
any of you by chance own a single LCD LED projector like from EGATE or lalantika available @ 15K and above, doing fare job for movies in home as per youtube review?
they also come with 2yrs warranty with bulb life of 20000hrs and cost of replacement @2500/- etc.
as expected lumens is too low but can be compensated with darker rooms as claimed in youtube
lets discuss the pros and cons of such items keeping its price in mind and the beginners who are mad at movies but not with big pocket to think of optoma etc...
even 1280x720 native models are there in this segment now a days
kindly share ur valuable thought and demo exp etc pl.

For watching HD is pretty acceptable in these projectors (esp with 720p native lcd panels). If you are looking out for one, let me know. I am having one 720p native canadian projector (w/ one extra HID bulb) which I had sparingly used, PM me for more details.

The only drawback in these kind of projectors will be the sound of the fans, it will be like sitting next to a small pc, if that sound is not annoying (most of the times you will not notice) you can very well buy it.

If one is buying a cheap projector then there will be compromise on quality and the movie watching experience on a big screen at home is not going to be satisfactory.

In such a scenario there will always be a greater possibility that quality etc will also be compromised on screen, 5.1, Receiver, source to view video content, type of rips etc.

In view to this sooner then later projector viewing will be reduced and one will go back to watching movies in a cinema hall.

I think it is always better to wait out for a better budget in hand before getting into projector world.

Hi Cmsajith, Can you mention the brand and model name of the canadian pj you hv mentioned above also if you can the price quote as i am looking for one pj.

Hmm there are a lot of listing of this projector on ebay... But I do think I should point out that this is a SVGA projector(800x600)... I think it should atleast be an XGA(1024x768)... Also the claimed 2000/2200/2400 Lumens seem very doubtful considering non of the Top brands in LED projectors have hardly breached 500 lumens till now... Max screen size of 120" also seems a bit low(though its not uncommon for LED projectors to have lower screen size)... Also the claim of 50000 hrs on the lamp when most top companies claim 20-30k... Anyway if anyone does end up buying this projector pls post pics & a review...

My personal advice to u? Stick to decent brands...

Hi, I bought this EGATE P424, and it is good. The company says it is 2500 lumens at source that means it will be little less on screen , but who cares it gives good and crisp image quality. Even if there claim of 50k hrs is more , we all know that LED has a min life of 25k hrs , which is good enough, plus they are giving replacement warranty ...good deal

i am using EGATe and it is worth the spend

I am confused... y did u need 2 posts(long version & a shorter version) to say the same thing??? Ur 1st post on the forum seems like a advt... Anyway do post some pics of it in action... Also as the claimed is 2500 lumens I am assuming it will have atleast 1200-1500 lumens... This is more than enough to use this projector in ambient light.. Do post a few pics with ambient light too...

Yes quality of projection is important - but again chain is stronger as the weakest link is.
And sometimes budget is key deciding factor...

Sometimes you have to play in your budget and live with it.

Like in your case you mostly watch movies which are 720 P DTS rips - or max 1080 P rips .....SO YOU ARE MISSING HD SOUND right??

also in our past visits we realised that your tweeters were non functional - and still it was fully acceptable for you. Which is quiet surprising as mostly vocals are dependant on good tweeter!! ( BTW have you repaired that?) Or before buying WD TV your receiver was in permant Dolby Pro logic mode --and still you were enjoying movies , in fact we realised your sub was NOT AT ALL firing properly!

So everyone has limitation and OP may happily leave with the projector he asked...

Today being a Sunday, I watched movies etc. for more than 8 hrs on my cheap projector and I am still amazed by its performance as I was on the first day. For the money I paid, I am more than happy with it. Infact I am ready to wait for few months for the Bluray release of TDK Raises rather than going to movie hall now (I am a big fan of the series).

Of course there is a compromise with low budget systems (applies for music too) but there's no point in waiting indefinitely to buy a better system if you have a decent, reliable, VFM choice within the available budget.

ps: Sorry I don't have any idea about the projectors discussed here

Is it ???!!!!....:lol::lol::lol:

Then those magazine reporters should be deaf.....

Better to get a standard XGA or WXGA projector, the fancy looking EGATE is a china imported SVGA projector.

There may be issues in the long run so take the call after a little research.

But I am a believer for non standard devices ,
items like our TRIPATH amp (one of the most VFM amps for starters ) .
Lets sort list LUXON,LUXION,LED66, Volare,annagaopeng..

i hope some of the offerings will even perform better than Dell m110.

Alternate route :
Get a OLD 3chip working projector, do a Xenon mod , i have seen mini xenons have been nicely mated with them .Xenons are small, cheap and fits in the same space as original lamp.

Happy new year to all, from last couple of days i am in search of LED PJ, i am not good reviewer even i don't know how to write a review correctly, but i would like to share my experience for Egate 512 demo which i have taken today, the guy based in khirki extension is a member of Egate marketing team, he has invited me for demo at his home, the sources he played was tata sky non hd & USB video, couldn't make it up with HDMI source as i was in impression that he might having the same.

Review
first of all he connected his tata sky with composite video out to video in PJ, and the results are not up to the mark as colures are blurred and not saturated at all, i have checked all channels like star plus, star cricket ZEE and sony but the results are not worth buying, skin edges are not clear enough , projector is bulky and huge in size as compare to branded one, fan noise is too loud as it can easily distract anybody, picture is too bright , colurs doesn't look like what they meant for for e.g green is not green it look like yellow am not sure about HD content performance really. but as of now i am dropping my option of buying egate and all such local projectors as the technology and quality they have is similar to each other i guess.
however, there is nothing which can impress me accept for lumens as all videos are clearly visible while two tubelight and one bulb is on, that is something which impressed me a lot , i don't know but PJ proof claim of 2500 lumens in that manner whatever wriiten in the specs.

I hope this review surely helpful for Hi fi members looking forward to add LED PJ to there HT as like me.
please ignore if there is any grammatical mistake as i am not that good in english.

Agreed that your review was not in-depth; but surely an eye opener for those looking for E-gate pjs. They are high on specs; but as suspected & now confirmed by your first hand experience, are not worth buying. So, it helped a lot!:)

Not to worry Viren. Just give some time on the forum. There are some fantastic writers around; you will surely improve on all counts like all of us,reading each other's wonderful posts being a part of this fantastic forum.:)

Regards.
