Few months back my AudioEngine A5 tweeters blew off, been following up with AudioEngine USA & PristineNote for the past 6+ months and finally last week they AudioEngine said they won't be able to help me and PristineNote is saying ask AudioEngine USA for the same its more of they are pointing to each other.

Well I have lost hope in both of them, as right now i'm now i'm looking to invest in a HiFi setup, would like to replace the tweeters with a matching one's.

So would like to know what options do i have available in Mumbai the A5 has 20mm SilkDome tweeters.

PS: Please don't ask how will i replace, have I tested the existing one's and am i sure they are flat dead etc. As I do not want to take this thread into a new direction, if you want to discuss the same, will be happy to start a new thread for the same. Hope you guys understand :)

Well, that's a very conditional query. How did the tweeters blew in the first place?
While many powered monitors are "active", i.e. separate amplifiers for woofer and tweeter with an active crossover, my understanding is that the Audio engines have a single amplifier for each channel and employ a passive crossover between the woofer and tweeter.

you will need to look at replacing the poly capacitors (these speakers do not use electrolytic so you won't see the typical bulging or leaking electrolyte) there are 3 of them and they are the largish yellow cylindrical objects that you will see when you open the back of the speaker. They will be next to some rectangular white things (resistors) and two reddish looking copper coils (inductors). These are quite common to purchase and only require basic soldering skills to replace.

Thanks hydrovac for the reply, as i said i have tried and tested all things I can to see what must have gone wrong and after that I have even tested the tweeters with a bigger size which works just fine, but what i want is a 20mm tweeters which will fit right in the custom faceplate.

How did it blew off. well it might be they were about to die or the frequency test track which i played was a lil too much for the coil.

What is that bigger size you have tested the tweeters with and works fine? Is it the tweeters or the bigger size?
Just pull out the tweeter and post some pictures, shape & dimensions of the faceplate. As it's only a kitchen system I don't think its a big deal finding a replacement.

By bigger size i meant was 25mm tweeters as opposed to the 20mm ones.

Picture of the face plate with the original tweeters and the peerless 25mm ones.
Note: The tweeters were attached using a black epoxy to the face plate. Also had a word with Mr. Sandeep we might work on something but taking the speakers all the way to his workshop would be painful for me.

Sorry about the poor quality, will upload better quality if needed.

Hey Andrew, IMO you should be willing to reply to such questions as you are new to the forum the gurus are not sure how knowledgeable you are with regard to drivers, their functioning etc. Multiple threads may be detrimental to your interest.

TS parameters of two different tweeters would be different and you cannot expect the replacement tweeter to work as the original without tweaking the crossover which is a project in itself.

Andrew327, how did you manage to open the bezel? its seems absolutely impossible. my tweeters blew off too i dont know how to access the tweeter on the passive a5 speaker.
