Audyssey discussion thread - Room calibration & settings

I have a denon avr x2000 and Polk audio tsx series assembled jnto a dedicated theatre room. Should I run an auddessey calibration or manual calibration will sound better ?
Try auddessey and compare which do you like more. There is option to set auddessey off. Also can set manually auddessey later. So many options till you like.:)

MY SR6009, post audyssey has set my fronts, center & surround (AJ Pioneer speakers) to 60 and surround back (satellite) to 150 with using my new SVS PB-1000 sub woofer and the sub db has been put to -9.0 DB.

Please share feedback if you find anything alarmingly wrong here.

Regards

Reduce the volume on the sub to 10'o clock or 12 max, prior to running Audyssey.
Then run the setup and see what results you get. You can set the crossover to 80 for the fronts and surrounds irrespective of what Audyssey sets and leave the surrounds back as is.

Try this and revert back with the results.

OK, the volume on the sub was set to 12 while running. Having said that, after the 4th point, there was a train running on the back of my house, at which point the mic was trying to hear the sound from sub, and it did twice and the second time the sound from sw was little high and it was so till the rest of the calibration.

Very difficult to run the entire 8 point of calibration without any sound as I am not sure at what time a train will pass by :)

That's really annoying when you are about to finish. It has happened with me a few times, though not with trains.

Try running the setup at night, if possible. Or see the max duration between trains passing by and use that moment for calibration.
Whatever results, Audyssey gives, you can always set the sub db level manually to say -3 and hear for yourself. Playing a music with strong bass beats can be used for correcting the sub levels.
The bass from the sub should not be heard separately, it should be seamless and should feel as if its from the fronts. Then you get it right.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
