AV Expo 2016 - Chennai - Sep 9th - 11th - Chennai Trade Center

In cont with above post...

Decibel is a dealer for Sonodyne in Chennai..

Sonodyne too was given some space in the stall, with the new Sonus 3000 series of speakers, In wall speakers and a 2.1 system represented by Pervez Ahmed - Regional Sales Manager, South - Sonodyne India.

None of the Sonodyne products that were displayed were connected to any amplifier...

This being AV Expo, we didnt like the idea of gazing the new range of speakers, but wanted to hear them..

A very good chance for Sonodyne to showcase the new range, but you let go of an wonderful opportunity...[emoji17]

Next stall was even funny - Cinebels

They had the latest Reference Premium range of speakers ONLY for display and was even surprised when they were showing demo of Klipsch puny 2.1 speakers..[emoji13] [emoji13]

They had the RP 28 FA (FS with Atmos speakers).. I requested them to play some stereo on it, but was duly invited for a demo to their showroom [emoji1]

A simple stereo amplifier connected to the FS would have made the crowd beeline at their stall..

Disappointed at the stall [emoji17]

Time for some Video products...

There was Samsung 65 inch SUHD tv... 4K content was a treat to watch on this one.. Loved it [emoji7]

There was also LG OLED 65inch on display.... Didn't notice if it was 4K, but first getting to watch inkyy blacks on a tv.. [emoji122] [emoji122]

Missed to click the pic..

Then we headed to HT Demo room of Decibel..

Was very eager to experience what the next generation of object based audio would sound at home..

That was a disappointment.. We got a demo of a Revel 5.1 system [emoji17] paired with a multichannel Preamp and Poweramp... No doubt it was good, but not enough for an AV Expo..

Decibel being a dealer for Pioneer, could have easily chosen to put Pioneer LX AVR with a full blown 11.2 setup..

We wanted to experience Atmos/ DTS:X and not the 5.1 which we have been watching for the last decade at home/movie theater...

A basic 5.2 setup with 6 overhead speakers, would have been the show stopper of the Expo.. Agreed overhead is difficult in an Expo, atleast front & rear heights should have done wonders..

Next was Torvin Demo room...

They had two different stereo set-up..

Torvin FS was powered by a Torvin tube amp with Marantz CD player..

First time listening to tubes..

The other setup was Torvin BS connected to valve amp with Arcam CD player.. Never heard this valve amp too..

Guess serious hi-fi material..

Of the two, i loved the tubes [emoji7] Easily better than the valve amp shown in that room, but there was lack of bass despite using a FS..

Next was Pro FX HT Demo room..

Again we went with the same expectation as we did with Decibel..

It was an Atmos Demo room..Yamaha RX A 2050 with KEF inwall speakers.. Fronts were mounted on sides of projector screen, a center channel below screen.. each speaker had 5/6 driver.. Didn't notice the model..

The surrounds were mounted above ear level and a ceiling speaker was placed very close to the surrounds... Since the ceiling speaker and surround was too close, couldn't really distinguish the sounds[emoji17]

Some Dolby Atmos music content and then Mad Max Fury movie.. I was not very sure if they had calibrated the system well, it was a good demo, but not up to the mark..

What abt DTS:X content? Nope.. Not aval with them.. Felt that an amplifier like Yamaha RX A 2050 a 9.2 AVR was not utilised to its potential...

Pro FX who deal with Denon, should have put the top end Denon AVR x7200, 11.2 capable and should have blasted the room that majority of the consumers haven't experienced at home..

VOW factor missing..[emoji17]

Since I wasn't happy, told the Pro FX demo person to put a 11.2 system for demo.. Don't know if that person got a hang of it, as he looked too elderly above 50+age..

Pro FX had a 2nd demo room, Polk speakers and Yamaha AVR.. with a standard 7.1 layout.. Surround back channels..

Why show a surround back, when you can easily show front heights with Atmos?

Yamaha AVR with Polk towers(not the RT series) were a lil harsh on our ears..

Not very much interested in the demo.. Just hanged around..

Last one was Cinebels HT Demo room..

We all came impressed with the demo.. There was no Atmos content, nor any great AVR there..

What we saw was Klipsch Reference Premiere RP 440WF 7.1 Home Theater system.. With surround back..

It is a wireless system and cost 6.5 Lacs. Aimed as lifestyle product..

Klipsch speakers powered by their own AVR..

They played Avatar and it was awesome.. [emoji122] [emoji122] [emoji122] Juz tearing power, very attacking, superb details, yet easy on ears.. No trace of Klipsch famed harshness..

Easily the best HT experience we had...

They also had a dated Marantz SR 7005 AVR, which they did not put in to use.. They could have shown an other demo with Klipsch RP 28 FA, RP 450c, RP 140 SA and dipole surrounds...

Even after having a spare AVR, and not offering the demo is bad..

Been looking at lot of gadgets, time for some faces finally..

From the extreme left FM Narayanan, Rajith Kumar, Thyagu, myself, Nitin, Raghav, Chandru and Vinod.. Couldn't click with all the FM, as they left at different times..

Thanks guys for making it a great time.. [emoji485]

Many thanks to FM Ravichander, who took the time and efforts to greet us in person, even though he was already done before we ppl (bunch) made it there..[emoji485]

Same with FM Kannan, who was caught in traffic but came to venue after stalls closed for the day to meet the FM's [emoji106]

That was a nice review Elangoji .I liked the Tube amp setup for music (but bigger budget).First time hearing in Tube amp . The smaller one ,I think the valve amp with Bookshelf was also good for its price range of (19+19k) which they told.

There was no representation from Onkyo.. Onkyo India having head office in Chennai, was expecting to see the macho looking AVR, TX- RZ series.. But no stall [emoji17]

Most persons manning the stalls were not knowledgeable. Had a tough time getting any info. ProFx did not calibrate their Atmos set up properly. It was a great let down. As Elango said the rest of the demo rooms are 'dinosaurs' demonstrating dated technologies. As it is we get only outdated products through legal channels in India. A vendor mentioned that they have a huge backlog of denon receivers and the newer 1300, 2300 ... x300 series wont come here anytime soon.
