Grand AV Expo 2015 - Chennai

Was there today. poorly arranged, just three demo rooms, no way to audition for serious listeners intending to get a recipe of various brands.

Both Focal and ATC are demoing their top of the line speakers.

Really liked a pair of towers displayed by Surround Swar (owned by G. Parthasarathy).

Got to meet Mr. Thankachan after more than a decade. He had a pair of horn loaded 2-way monsters that sounded nice and crisp.

The do not miss out on two car audios being demoed at the entrance, one by Karthick of Speedfreaks, a red Maruti Swift with a full range of Audison drivers and amps.
The other one by Powerzone which I think is a Skoda showcasing SO Audio drivers and Brian amps.
Both the setups are fully active.

Hmmm... some might say that there was some good stuff there, but still, the selection was fairly limited. Even if I had gone with a bulging wallet, there was very little that appealed. What could I have emptied it on? ATC speakers, probably. But I doubt if I'll every buy room-filling audio again --- which reminds me, there was absolutely nothing at all for us headphone guys.

It was interesting to see Eve Audio speakers. That's something that might be on the shortlist for the desktop one day in the distant future.

It was probably a mistake that I did not even venture into the demo rooms, but my ears were feeling addled by miscellaneous noise already. I've said this before, but it keeps on happening: the worse my hearing gets, the more fussy it gets about what it hears!

I met Mr Sayeed. Otherwise didn't see anyone to talk to. Apologies if I walked past anybody I should have recognised: the brain cells are doing worse than the hearing cells

Generally, I found the next-door furniture exhibition to be more interesting, but I'm still glad that I went to see and I'll go again if it becomes an annual event.

Nothing great to tell about 2 channel and nothing was impressive and demo rooms were poor. Only thing these shows will create awareness for the people so much brand of speakers are there in the market and think to go to showrooms for demo..

Was there today and best room there was Decibel HT room with JBL speakers which produced superb fatigue-less hear with sufficient punch.

Next is HT room with Sonodyne for pure digital punchy chillly silvery sound. Very nice sleek HT speakers. May be if tamed it may work good.

However Cinema focus PJ quality was perfect however the sound was too boomy to tolerate in the room.. However if we have to enjoy the perfect ATC HT Setup one has to go to cinema focus showroom and enjoy and it will bite the other equivalent range speakers to dust.

Missing Audio people and their high end stuffs for this show..

Stunned to listen Focal Grand Utopia in expo . Apart from that lot of noises from other stalls which remains me that this expo like common home fair expo usually conducted in the same venue.

More weight-age to HT as usual than Stereo gadgets in demo rooms,

I am unable to find any wharefdale products, ( Or i may missed out).

Hi visited the Chennai AV Expo yesterday. It was only noise no sound. More focus on home theatre than audio. Though very good speakers were displayed not able to enjoy them with all the din around. Even the demo room were bad, went with great expectation, came back with blistering Head ache. Maybe the day I chose was wrong.

Stunned to listen Focal Grand Utopia in expo .

Were those the massive things? I walked past, thinking that the sound was entirely artificial and wrong. No doubt that was caused by the environment. I didn't think that Focal makes crap, and I don't think so now --- but there is no way I would have bought from that demo.

I was there on Friday (18th Sep) evening around 5 PM....Some Demo rooms were not ready...

Was there in a demo room where they had JBL speakers.. They were very good... Didn't check the model (or) series...

Couldn't make it there on weekend..

In a communication with the organisers, I have put forward the following...

First, thanks for making it happen at all. From hand tools to water technology and all the others, this was actually one of the better specialist expos.

second, talk to the Chennai HFV Meet guys here. They are the ones with the best ideas.

and, from me personally...

1. Nearly all the HFV people would like to see more 2-channel-stereo

2. For me: more pro-audio stuff like active studio monitors. It would we good to see products from Genelec, Adam, Neuman, and others. This is not just studio audio: it serves high-quality desk-top audio too.

3. Headphones and headphone gear. Perhaps too much of a minority interest. I fear that there are very few of us who use headphones for primary listening --- but there must be more who use them sometimes, and audiophiles being audiophiles, they might be interested in experiencing different/better.

It also occurs to me that a couple of areas in which you might do better are...

1. Turntables and phono pre-amps. There is a resurgence.

2. Peripheral stuff, aiming also for direct sales. eg cables and stuff. I may think that the whole cable market is rubbish , but I'm still putting forward the ideas as one that others may welcome, and may be a direct-sale revenue earner.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
