Dear Forum Members,
I just had a tele conversation with the Captain, who told me about this group buy and asked me whether I know someone who could make cabinets. I guess that happened when we were talking of my 8' tall LINE ARRAY PROJECT. As a matter of fact, I am getting my line array (visit True Audio: Audio Spectrum Analyzer and Loudspeaker Design Software or google 'murphy corner line array' AND 'jim griffin's white paper on line array' to know more) from FM Kanwar's woodcraft facility for Pro Audio enclosures. The pics vide this link give us SOME idea of the craftsmanship and professionalism involved.

Now, I have spoken to Kanwar and although this isnt his bread and butter, he has kindly consented to undertake the bulk-order GROUP-BUILD project for HFV members as a special gesture. The final pricing will of course depend on the choice of material
[eg Baltic/Russian BIRCH ply or Marine-grade(waterproof) ply or just plain good old MDF]
and of course, the intricacy of the speaker construction plan(s).
I have seen and heard stuff made by Kanwar's Zypher Power Labs and I can vouch for two things ie COMPETITIVE PRICING and Quality of CRAFTSMANSHIP in construction.
Sadly, I have grown out of 2 way speakers with passive XOs and as is the case with me, I choose to tread the path less chosen with line-arrays, open baffles/dipoles, constant directivity & horns and a 21 inch sealed sub being more of my kind of thing. That, my friends is the only reason that I am constrained so as to not subscribe to this wonderful group BUY n BUILD. In fact, I will be selling all three pairs of speakers and two subwoofers(one is passive) that I currently own after/before the projects take shape. These are 2xlithos Q10, 2xlithos noa1, 2xmission m34i, 1xlithos Q-bic sub and 1xlithos Noa1 passive sub. Yes, someone is going to get very lucky as all my eqpt is the way it came and I shall be selling it because of need of money and lack of space.
Therefore, I have no commercial interests, whatsoever, in posting this save the desire that fellow forum members get MORE FOR LESS by all contemporary standards.
As per the Captain's directions, I have already sent the u/m bulk order estimate for Kanwar and his Chief craftsman to work out expenses:-
(It may please be kept in mind that Kanwar's wood-working lines do NOT presently cater for the external veneer/polished finish desirable in home-audio, hence the same will have to be out-sourced, which is likely to push the costs up marginally, but it is still going to be a SUITABLE COST. Those of you who have been following my posts may know that I am one hell of a stickler for value for money)
14 x prs front xls encore
5 x center ch matching
5 x surround av1(?)
4 x subwoofer 12B(incl 1 double dvr sub)
2 x single dvr servo sub
1 x double dvr servo sub.
I hereby request and suggest more FMs to avail of this golden opportunity as the MORE THE MERRIER (CHEAPER TOO). This kind of an opportunity does not come everyday and I have half a mind to go I for it myself but then my head (just this once) gets the better of my poor heart. However, I shall see if I can rope in some/any non-member friends.
Meanwhile, I shall request the Captain to take the lead and:-
(a) Consolidate/amend/update the final demand piece-wise.
(b) Arrive at a consensus for choice of material and other parameters.
(c) Provide speaker construction plans at the earliest. No plan, no estimate, you see.
(Kanwar recommends MDF for smaller budget conscious enclosure and Baltic/Russian Birch ply or Marine (waterproof) ply for larger ones. Obviously, top grade birch ply is about 4 times the cost of MDF, with marine-grade falling mid-way, costwise.)
All other forum members are requested in their own interest, to give this wide publicity so that costs come further down.
Last but far from least, I request Kanwar to take some time out to visit this thread and be available to answer any possible queries. I personally feel that shipping of so many drivers back and forth will add to the costs so depending on what Kanwar says, I suggest its better to have all the drivers delivered wherever the cabinets are to be made.
Over to you, Captain and Kanwar.
Warmest Regards, All.
