Best tv media player of 2010!!!

WDTV Live outperforms Xtreamer probably in most formats!! But the formats I am concerned with, it performs horribly as far as the reviews go and this problem is not fixed just as yet!
Which formats you concerned? RMVB ?
I guess DVD-MENU is another missing thing..

Yes almost every company is now making Media Player..even Intel has one based on Atom..but the question is who has good support . IMHO,WDTV community is widest , they are the pioneer in this area remember WD TV Mini was one of the player of this concept..i guess thats how community for them built up ..

Not rmvb that much! Im concerned with AAC in HD with MKV and also MP4 issues! Basically its a known issue and the last update on this problem was posted a week ago in the WDTV community forum! Heres the link:-

Re: We're getting pissed off. WDTV MP4/MKV/AAC aud... - Western Digital Community

What do you have to say about this? Or am i missing something?

@freeky
I agree AAC in MP4 /MKV has issues; i dont know why WD people aren't fixing this on priority while this problem wasn't there in WD TV 1

Thats why Im apprehensive about buying it as I have around 50 GB of media in MKV/.263-aac format and around 30 GB in mp4(different audio codecs)!
Now the stage is such that :-
1) cant buy WDTV because of the above problem.
2) xtreamer - people are mentioning limitations in audio formats supported
3) seagate - weaker chipset compared to the above and no reviews about it
4) iomega - no idea at all!!!

God, somebody help me plz:indifferent14:

go for xtreamer...it plays everything u throw at it...
also firmware upgrades and lot better than wd tv.. however comparable to wd tv live but have an additional hdd slot inside and also cost effective than wd tv live

What about the audio sync issues??? Does it exist only while streaming? or the WDTV will also face problems!

I care about both HDMI and HD Audio! What I care least about is networking and streaming!

That being said:-
Do you guys know anything about the new Iomega Screenplay Director HD? It promises pretty much the same as the Xtremer and WDTV! And I havent heard any rough reviews about it either! Comes for around 7-7.5k!!! Any takers for this one??

WDTV Live has sync issues over network playback. If someone has the WDTV Live in BLR, I don't mind testing it with the HQV disc. The older WDTV *fails* every single deinterlacing test.

If you must have DTS Master/Dolby TrueHD, the only players that will do it is Popcorn Hour C200 and the Dune bluray player.

Thanks a lot for your replies!
Ive finally decided on buying Xtreamer!
The WDTV has some major issues, C-200/Dune were the best but they are way too expensive(almost 4 times the WDTV, FAT+ and Xtreamer:eek:, Iomega Director HD doesnt have much reviews and Seagate Freaagent Theater+ and Playon use Realtek 1073 while the Xtreamer use a more suitable version for better handing of PVR and DVB-T! Though I guess both FAT+ and Playon were excellent choices(at least better than WDTV2 in my opinion and I really dont understand why the WDTV2 has such mixed reviews, some reviewers rate it as the best player while those who are aware of its codec problems give it a very poor rating)!
So, I guess Ill buy xtreamer! By the way, is it compatible with both 3.5" and 2.5" hard drives??

I agree with everything except the cost effective part.

If someone is willing to take some risk, community firmware for wdtv makes it far better than original firmware.

Well, WDTV is the most cost-effective in terms of hardwae but the problem is the firmware! Also community firmwares is risky and may end up bricking your hardware(and it has happened with the WDTV before)...and this is no USA or Europe where RMA ing is not an issue! Who would take that risk and throwing your 6-7k down the drain due to community firmwares!
As of now Im fixed with Xtreamer and If I get a strong enough reason to change my choice it would be with ACRyan PlayON, that too because my brother who has more knowledge than me regarding media players says that PlayON is a better option than Xtreamer!
How does the PlayON HD stack up against the Xtreamer??? what is the difference??

Xtreamer is not compatible with 3.5" HDD..

Xtreamter: 2.5" HDD (max 750GB)
PlayOn: 3.5" HDD (max 2 TB)

Thanks dude!
But are you talking about the dock?? Im sure we can use any drive externally both external and internal via USB, isnt it? Is there ant difference in performance between using an external device externally via USB and using it in the inbuilt dock?
Also apart from this is there any major difference between the two(both in terms of specifications and realtime performance)?????

Its the internal dock (Inside the box)..

externally.. Both can support any self powered or externally powered USB drive up to whatever size available..

I have Xtreamer..No problem as such in the performance while playing the content from the external drives (USB HDDs)..It is similar to internally docked HDD.. specs suggests that USB has limited speed for data transfer BUT it is more than enough to play any content..

Do search the forum to find a comparison between Xtreamer and PlayOn.. I haven't done it personally..

hey it seems many of you are not updated..WD TV Live supports DVD menu with updated FW. The audio sync problem in mp4 files is also fixed. I had some HDMI handshaking issues, that too was fixed. You can check them out here. Looking at the release notes gives us a lot of confidence that there are people working seriously in sorting out any issues whatsoever.
