Does anyone have these speakers? They have pretty great reviews and several respected reviewers vouch for the fact these bookshelves legitimately go down to 33Hz!

Sells for around 73K INR a pair.

On the lookout for an excellent 2.0 compact living room set which don't need a sub to flesh out the low-end with excellent imaging and these seem to fit the bill.

Interestingly they offer free international shipping although these speakers are heavy - 20kg. Anyone have any idea what would be the expected customs and import duty if I decide to buy these on the 73K INR?

The marketing blurb on the website is:

"Direct sales, with free worldwide shipping
In order to reach these prices, we've eliminated everything deemed unnecessary, including marketing, distributors, agents, and Hi-Fi dealers. By selling directly to the consumer, we eliminate 60-70% of the cost in comparison to other products. Our focus is purely on performance and quality."

So I checked with the manufacturer. They are willing to send the pair the India for the all inclusive price insured and tracked. Only problem is I have no idea how much customs and duty is going to be on this...

Yes this pair is apparently better than the SVS Ultras and the JBL 530s which I was previously considering. The economics of it also makes sense since they are passing on most of the value like Schiit does with its dac and amp stuff.

CUstoms Duty is approx. 30% on cost of product + shipping... Ask the manufacturer if they could under invoice a little...

90K for these is not too bad considering I don't need to invest in a sub for them to cover the very low end. Will see if they are flexible on the invoicing at all... doesn't hurt to ask :)

I don't think the Europeans do things like that! (I mean under invoicing).

But no harm in trying. Maybe ask them to show it as a discount or something.

I am following this thread eagerly and awaiting your listening experience.

VFM has different meanings and at Rs 92000 + duty i dont think this is VFM.

My unsolicited advise is to go for stuff available here that you can hear and take a call on.

In Europe and USA - returns are easier but thats not the case once the product lands in India.

Thanks not to say the product is bad but - how good is your risk taking ability ?

Cost incl shipping is ~70k and after customs is ~90k. What specific bookshelves would you suggest that are available to audition in India and can truly work without compromise without a good subwoofer? Open to other brands too but haven't come across anything comparable.

if you want full range sound then either a large speaker or a subwoofer is a necessity.

If you listen to orchestral or western music - then you will understand that though small speakers may produce individual LF notes ( supported by the room ) but producing scale is a different matter altogether.

IMO - this claim of non requirement of a subwoofer needs to be taken with a pinch of salt - till one hears it in person.

regards

You might want to wait a bit before you plunk down 90k for these speakers.
2 reviews is not much to go by, and especially if no audition exists. Z reviews are entertaining. The website claims they could be placed against a wall. Z says it needs room to breath. These are little things that need to be considered. Also 4ohms and 86db sensitivity means you will need robust amplification.
Do consider these things before you rush in.
But if you are a risk taker, go ahead and order one.It would be interesting to get some real info from a forum member.

33hz at +/- 3dB with 6 inch driver looks difficult to achieve. But I could be wrong.
Regards.

On the fence. Logic says to wait for a few more comprehensive reviews and that anything close to 33Hz at decent fullness from an enclosure that size seems to defy physics.... my gut tells me otherwise though :D

Let's see which side wins ;)

 You want to believe it will deliver 33Hz?
Just try to locate any brand which claims to deliver similar lows from bookshelves for auditioning near your place.. This will give you some idea regarding the kind of bass to expect from such bookshelves despite manufacturers claim.

most of the music lies in the midrange & upper midrange.
33hz should be a selling point..but at the same time 6moons reviews are usually accurate.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
