This thread just came up in time when I was looking at DIY methods of increasing the height of the floor stander. My better half decided to have a go at picking up new furniture and ended up buying a new couch. I used to have a 3+2 corner seater earlier and had good 12 feet or so between the seating area and the HT/TV. She rid the old one and picked up a new 3+1+1 couch 2 days back.
Went home last evening after work and was in for a shock. The listening experience itself is completely messed up. With the single seaters put opposite to each other, the distance between the couch(single seaters) and the FS have reduced to about 4/5 feet and the darn couches arm rests are pretty much blocking the sound from the FS.
Got 3 books , stacked them up and put the FS on them and viola I had what I was looking for. Obviously cannot touch the couch or think anything on the lines of even moving it around.
Now on calculation I found that I need to raise the FS by 4/5 inches at-least to get back to where it was.
Am toying the idea given by magma. Wood base with spikes and them granite atop the wood.Obviously finding granite at that size is gonna be tough and I would have stack them upon one another. Drilling the granite for spikes is another fiasco by itself.
So does the order spikes --> solid wood--> granite --> FS make sense at all or solid wood and granite be interchanged ?
Will you be able to send me the spikes if I give you the measurements pal ?
