Which AVR you finalized?
Which AVR you finalized?
Hi
I am going to buy a polk RM 705 speakers.cost is 28k.is it good or any other modal suggestions?
When you look for the speakers with in a specified budget, look for the ones which have highest Sensitivity (db). As Venkat pointed out & per the specification, Denon can output 75W when two channels are driven. So look for a good Book Shelf speaker with higher sensitivity/ efficiency within your budget. Wharfedale 9.2 (86 db) might be difficult for Denon receivers. I own Diamond 9.2 for the last 1.5 yrs & telling you this out of usage. Diamond's need very good amplification to shine.
I would recommend Sonodyne Sonus range. For the same 28K, you can get a decent BS Sonus 1501 (8K) + CC Sonus C2401 (6K) + Sonus Rears Dipoles (10K). Around 25K you will get a 5.0 system. Later you can add the subwoofer. All these speakers are 88db & above, so easy for any receiver with modest power to drive them. Anything less than 88db for a BS, you will need more power to bring the best out of it.
Hi,
first you tell me whether Denon 1612 is good avr or not?if it is good then I will go for the speakers which is you specified?otherwise I will change my AVR.
Before you finalise any receiver, list out the components that you currently have/ might purchase in the near future. Figure out how you are going to connect them to your receiver & if the receiver has enough inputs, then decide finally. If in case there are not many inputs on this model, you may have to lookup for a stepup model.
Hi,
I dont know these many things.my main purpose is music.that to all most I will connect my laptop to AVR (through HDMI ).and in future I will connect to TV and DVD player. these all are things to work with AVR.so please let me know whther 1612 is suitable or any other modal.
Perfect. You said connect to the TV, do u have a STB connection or cable connection ?
You also said that you will connect your DVD player to the receiver. I think it must be thru digital connection (Optical or Co-axial).
I think this model of Denon has only 2 digital inputs (1 optical & 1 Co-axial).
Find the outputs from your sources (DVD, Cable/DTH) & see if there are enough options to accomodate any gadgets in future & then go for it.
Go for the Denon 1612. I'm using one and is satisfied by its performance. It has 4 hdmi inputs and two digital inputs which is more than enough for your use.
For bookshelves go for Jamo C603. For floorstanders go for either Jamo or Polk. Go to their showroom & take stock.
Polk at ProFX.
Jamo at Cinebels
try qacoustics 2000i cinema package. Heard its awesome with 1612.
But available only in UK i think.
No way we can import to india unless we go for a tour there![]()
May be venkat can explain more.
This has been explained and discussed many times. AVR manufacturers, unfortunately, misuse specification standards across the world to confuse buyers and make tall claims.
If you take a 400 watts power supply and divide it by 5 channels, you can never deliver more than 80 watts per channel all channels driven. Such number will sound too low, so they make it up by saying xx channels driven, aaa-bbb frequency, zz% THD etc. In real life when you are watching a movie, dynamic power across all channels is critical. When there is a bomb explosion, will the amplifier have enough juice to power two or more channels with the sudden surge in power, AND not reduce power to other channels? Let us assume the front three channels need 100 watts of power each for a few seconds. All you have left is 100 watts to give to 4 channels. What happens then? The specs of entry level models are never for all channels. There will be a small print somewhere. In the 1612, if you see it clearly says in two places that the power output is 75 watts per channel. It also says this - 'Equal power amp design with five discrete 120-watt channels'. Frankly, I have no idea what that means.
These amplifiers can never be sold at the prices they are being sold at if you give it enough juice for 120 watts of dynamic power across 7 channels. Let us not even worry about speaker impedance for now. Look at Arcam's AVR600 which says, '120WPC continuous power output into 4 or 8 ohms loads (all 7 channels driven at 1kHz)'. That uses a huge toroidal transformer to deliver the energy needed.
Does that mean the 1612 cannot be used? Nope. What it means is that it needs to be paired with speakers that need low power and are highly sensitive. I would look for speakers with around 90db sensitivity and a power handling capacity of 20-70 watts. Satellite speakers are the best.
