Denon 1612 AVR + which Speakers ?

What this means is the amplifier has been tested on 2 channels simultaneously on a test tone that varies between 20Hz to 20,000 Hz to deliver a maximum of 100 watts with a total harmonic distortion of .08%. Usually power is tested by sending a continuous pinging tone at 1 kHz. These kind of tests should theoretically be done in a anechoic chamber using a microphone that is kept one meter away from the speaker. Anechoic chambers are very expensive and there are few in the world. So in most cases, these tests are done in soundproof rooms, or just simulated on a computer based tester. The amplifier is pushed till it reaches it breaking point.

I don't know want the 'x7' means. I suppose it means that there are 7 amplifiers which can behave they way two have been tested. But please remember, as I explained above, these specs do not specify the capacity of the power transformer to drive more than two channels. They have never been tested on all 7 channels, assuming you are talking about a 7 channel amplifier.

If you need 7 channels that can simultaneously deliver 100 watts each, you would need a transformer that can generate 100x7x1.25 watts of power at the least. The additional .25 is for peaking requirements or dynamic power. When one channel is pushed for more power, another channel must not be punished or drained of power.

Cheers

Hi ,

Thanks Venkat,I got little bit :),bcz I am new to HT.let me know which is best Denon 1612 or Marantz SR5005 .I will go for that one.

The Marantz seems to have better specs. It is a 7 channel amplifier for one, and with 650 watts transformer, it should be able to deliver roughly 60 watts of dynamic power to all 7 channels. And that is for a speaker that has an impedance of 8 ohms. If you use six ohm speakers, you should get roughly 80 watts per channel.

Cheers

Hi,

I saw Denon 1612 specification, can you pls check the below link and let me know this denon specification also.

DENON UK | AVR-1612

I thought that Marantz support 100w per channel. according to you it is vary.

I read the specification sheet only today. And it says,

Do you see the catch? They are using completely different specifications for the two tests. In one they are using 8 ohms across the full frequency range of 20-20k with a THD of .08%. In the other the THD has gone up by nearly 10 times, and the frequency is limited to just a single 1kHZ tone. This way you can specify any wattage.

And the power consumption is shown as 360 watts. The amp can never deliver 120 watts. The specs are complete BS.

Cheers

I dont know what is THD?can you please explain it in understandable way ? . so shall I go for Marantz SR5005?I totally confused with AVR. :)

Agreed with Venkatcr, that the way they have arrived at 120W rating is grossly misleading. Same with Yamaha AVRs. But its not always about ratings. With speakers of decent sensitivity in an average sized room, 75W per channel @ 8 ohm is ample power, sufficient enough to slam you back on your seat.

In reality, hardly there will be an instance where maximum rated RMS power needs to be delivered to all 5 / 7 channels simultaneously, even at peak decibels- that will be unbearable. You will never need that magnitude of sound from all the speakers at maximum volume; a situation when the limitations of the power supply becomes imperative. We might usually listen not more than 0 db, so even during demanding scenes, there will be some headroom to spare in the amplifier sections. Not to forget the caps that come into play when there is a need for short bursts of additional power (dynamic power). According to me, a 375W supply is just sufficient for an entry level AVR.

You may consider Boston XS5.1 (Powered sub + 5 sats) - it is within your budget and has got decent reviews :clapping:

so many peoples suggest this Boston XS5.1 system,I dont know the sound quality ? bass should be good.and sats are look like very small size.

thanks venkatcr. can I go for Marantz SR5005.or any another modal?

Bwaah ha ha ha! Sorry! Couldn't help burst out laughing after seeing such a question after a simple explanation on a technical thing. Terribly sorry, but it was like after someone explaining the workings of an internal combustion engine, somebody asking should I go for a bajaj scooter or a vespa!

Sorry, k_paramesh82. Nothing personal against you.

paramesh saar.. neenga marantz purchase pannunngo.. nalla model..

speakers - neenga kaadu ( ear ) pidicha speaker nalla irukkum.. ( Wharfedale from hifimart ).

dont take too much tension.. just take the plunge..

Hifi le onnum right or wrong illai.. ongoluku pidicha model onga budget le neega purchase pannanum.

Hi Koolpal,

first time I am going to buy a HT system,my thought like there is no need to change in future also, that is the reason I am asking every one.you peoples have knowledge so it is look like simple.I dont have knowledge on these area.thanks for your comment. good bye to this forum.sorry.

That is it? You get what you want and walk away?

Cheers

I am not walk away,if you peoples comment then what to do?either i have search another forum or buy a simple one.before coming to this forum even I dont know the AVR also.by reading some post I came to know that AVR is there by using this we can get good sound quality.then I search for AVR,one perosn suggest Denon 1612 and some one suggest SR5005 modal, then I start to reviews on SR5005.that was happens.now I am planing for speakers,in the mean while that guy posted like that.so I decide to move away.

Paramesh, since you have got so many comments about your query, now its time to walk to the store, listen these avr's and then make a final decision. we here can only suggest, finally its you who have to decide which avr and speakers within you budget sounds good to you, and as mentioned earlier also your ears are the best judge.

Mr. Paramesh everyone here is trying to help you but utlimately have to take final decision, if you keep asking same question someone can get irritated you shouldn't pay attention to it. But if you walk away you will be looser.

New twist in tale. Now leave aside all advice/specification discussions/clarification from gurus and believe only your ear. It may lead you again like Denon 1612. :D

Why this Kolaveri vishal_k? :ohyeah:. Here is some more link for your next step. Best of luck.

 I'm not saying to avoid all the advices given by gurus, i am saying that each avr+speakers sounds different to different people. like here so many FM's have recommended marantz sr5005, but when i demoed it, i didn't liked it for movies bcoz the explosions & gunshots in "The dark knight" were not that much real as they were in denon 1911.
Anyways thanks for the link.:signthankspin:

Jeez just saw the furore my outburst (pun intended) has created!!

Dude, once again sorry if my comment has upset you. I had mentioned that it was NOT personal against you.

It's just that the timing was just too much. All the best for your quest for your AVR! I'm sure you'll get an amazing one!

Small advice: lighten up!!

Hi,
there is no need to say sorry KoolPal. I finalised Marantz SR5005 AVR.so there is no new post will come from me. :)

I am not walk away,if you peoples comment then what to do?

This is like a social club, and it is free. So you will have people commenting on many things.

Ideally once you get your AVR and speakers set up, it will be good if you post a review and help others who will be in a similar boat as you were sometime ago.

Cheers

k_paramesh

congratulations on a good chioce.. please post pictures for us to enjoy ( especially after so many folks have contributed to this post ).

Please let us have your listening impressions so that you can pass on your knowledge to the others that may follow you on this road.

Try and put a review together after about a week of setup so that things are reasonably jelled together and the excitement of a new system is more or less calmed. In the meantime maybe you may have questions regarding setups / cables etc.. which the FM's may reply to you.

regards,
mpw
