Hi
My earlier experience in Speaker Placement is given in
http://www.hifivision.com/av-enhance...xperience.html
Recently, Inspired by PDhanwada's thread, Stephen Helm's DIY efforts and many others , I have built and commissioned Corner Chunk Bass Traps in the 2 corners behind the speaker. The major ingredients are:
Casing made of 3/4 '' plywood boards stuffed with 96 kg/m3 rockwool , front cover 4mm polyester sheet and outer fabric.Dimensions 500mmx500mm for the 2 arms of the triangle and height 4 ft.
Net Result so far:
Overall cleaner, more airy and detailed sound with more headroom for higher SPL's since the midbass boom is reduced. Not much significant reduction is extreme lower end for which speaker placement is still the key.
Overall: A significant and cost-effective upgrade for smallish rooms.
Cheers
Himadri

Very well done. I am also considering doing something on those lines, and was reading through Pandu's earlier thread yesterday to refresh my memory.

Nice job Himadri! I like the pattern/color of the fabric used. Where did you get it from?
Cheers,
Sid

Thanks Sridhar,ANM,Sid,George,Manoj
Manoj-Corner tables yes,time will tell.
Sid and George-The polyester Sheet and fabric were sourced from the local furnishing store. As warned by Pandu, I was specially careful about sealing the Rockwool. Incidentally, I was lucky to get the 50mm Rockwool slabs cut from the factory itself (1000mmx500mm slab cut into 4 triangular pieces)which saved the messy and itchy job of getting them cut by my carpenter.A local factory makes them regularly for industrial use.
ANM-extending to top corner would have been ideal.I might go for it later after experiencing the benefits of this partial trap and also shall need wify's concurrence.
Cheers

Himadri,

I filled up three corners from bottom to top. Each corner contained three pieces of 3ft height. That helped soften up and even up the bass across the room. You could have done the same.

My bass trap dimensions for others who were asking for dimensions.

17 in X 17 X 24 front corners

14 in X 14 X 18 back corner (1). The other back corner has a door.

Thanks
Pandu

You are right. I had followed your thread on the subject. . At present I am assessing the sound, taking the traps, the room furnishings etc into consideration. I shall take a decision based on the same as extending the traps to the roof calls for modifications in the window curtain system also.

Hi! I am facing a problem like Pdhanwada. I have a door too in the rear corner, my whole room is treated with 3" of foam, plywood on the panelling and fabric all around. the floor is 4" thick and carpeted. the ceiling has a false ceiling and is stuffed with 3" of foam in the wooden paneling. My room size is 16' by 16'. Its a dedicated room with 4 recliners in a line. The equipment i use is there to read and as you can see I am using a Velodyne dd15+. Earlier I was using my Velodyne spl12 along with the dd15 but not anymore. I still dont find much of a difference by excluding it. I get too much of booming in all corners reaching the corner seats. what can I do with my bass traps? I can have them in three corners but not in the fourth for i have a door there.
Thanks!
