firstwatt-25watt

Mishrajee...
Actually I have started this thread mainly for awareness for non Diyers.
So terminology is quiet unclear you have used. Please explain what you meant..
Actually it is mosfet based design , so was curious if any one has built it or not
because of simplicity and 25 watts.

Hi what Om means is that the sourced hard to get(unobtainium) parts from the online seller "SEMISOUTH"

Regards,

Lifewater

^^ my bad, typo -

It used unobtainum :) Semisouth R100 enhancement-mode power Jfets

Hi sachin,
from the link I have given in first post, there are not any visible big heat sink.

Each side of the cabinet is a large heatsink. Not apparent from the top view

All commercial production Firstwatt amps use the same heatsink design I think

Those heatsinks are different and not available in India. Mr Pass use these on his amps. I think they are especially made for pass products. They are not small. They are quiet big in reality.

Regards
Sachin

The semiconductors required in the F6 design (from Semi South) are no longer in production. Many people bought them while they were still available.

Why not consider the F5 Turbo?

Hi jls001,
When jean hiraga(sorry for spell) is in design, then why F5...[emoji2]
This F6 was looking simple and it is the latest offering from pass labs, thats why curious if any one has built it..

Hi you can easily build Jean Hiraga 15W class A design its very simple than F5 dont underestimate its watts need to use good toroidal with sufficient current it is now easily driving my 86db sonus faber

Dheerajin,

Originally F6 is designed using the Semisouth PowerJFets. I have built using those devices and they are not available anymore. Now Mr. Pass has republished the design using the regular IR MOSFETs. The circuit is published on the diyaudio website under Pass amps and posted by 6L6.

Apparently the new design sounds better for many. While all Pass Amps look simple with fewer parts, the F6 is non-trivial from a heatsink requirement and Toroid perspective. It is more demanding than the F5's requirement. As Sachin pointed out, it is the same heatsink for all the regular amps of Pass. They are special with fins turned upwards.

Hope this clarifies. Jean Hiraga's and Pass's sound signatures are different and the design approaches are different.

Regards

Which of these two is sonically superior? What advantage does a push pull design offers?

Both signature are different a demo will help to identify the difference I have not heard F5 or F6 but I like hiraga very much. You can ask bibin & bijin to share there experience on both amps they have both F5 and Hiraga. My Hiraga build was fully inspired from bibins build.

^^ Though we will hear from anilva - this is from our another FM kanwar.

Single Ended class A are good if used between linear response region of output devices. These are highly inefficient.

Pushpull offers linearity of region from two output drivers, separately for +ve and -ve half cycles. But feedback type changes output harmonics behavior, hence sound traits. F6 is using Jensen transformer for feedback which has really different sound signature which I haven't heard yet. I heard only SE Amp Camp Amp and F5 turbo v2.

So over to anilva who has experience of listening all of them :D

To my ears, and I repeat to my ears, the F6 is the best sounding Amp (with Power JFets) I have heard. This does not in any way prove that one is sonically better or worse compared to others. Each one's tastes are different. Let me admit that I have a serious bias towards Pass amps.

Cheers.
