Floorstanding Speakers or Studio Monitors?

Re: Floorstanding Speakers or Studio Monitors? (Mainly for Movies)

LOL I can find such speaker

Sir,
If you have 'found' such a speaker - just 'share' the name - please.

Maybe I will go & try and demo it...[listen to it - any where in the world] !!
I really want to get the performer into the room.
I have been 'searching' for the 'performers' presence in my room for the past 1.5 decades & have not succeeded as yet. Neither @ Home nor @ Audio Shows and did not find them in Dealer / Distributor demo rooms either...

If you could shed some light, trust me I shall truly appreciate it...
:licklips: Please be so kind - it shall be most appreciated..

shanti sir its was abhi_jollyguy's way to describe what kind of sound he wanted :) u wanted "performers" in your room and u were busy searching for HIFI speaker setups since 1.5 decades? auditioning some "performers" instead of speakers will put an climax to those decades  let me know for sure when u find norah jones i would love to see her perform in my room  she is beautiful :)

so abhi_jollyguy which amp and speakers ? and from where u will be ordering them?

Among the demo I've done so far (and it's not much), Wharf 9.5 and Polk TSi400 held my attention.

PSB and Paradigm audition pending before I cement the decision. Sadly have to wait for building repairs to be over and that will take a month.

My eyes are biased towards floorstanders. Oh man! they look yum.

Have a question - many of the speaker models are from 2006-2008 (meaning bit old). Do they need not churn out speaker models every year like crazy televisions?

Yes,
'Trinitron'
I have had the good luck of listening to a lot of 'live' performances.
My 1st love is Western Classical & have been to a few concert halls [globally] & attended concerts @ NCPA on a 'regular' basis.
Therefore, what I listen to in a concert hall & what I get to hear at home are 'poles' apart.....
I have never heard Norah Jones - life - so cannot comment.
Most Male & Female singers have performed [recorded] in 'studios' & that environment to me is mega claustrophobic

But my 'quest' to re-create live still goes on. Hope to get it some day - a glimpse of it at least....currently I am very far away....

I still long & yearn to attend 'baithaks' & 'riyas' sessions - Indian Classical Music.
Although I do attend Indian Classical Music - mostly hindustani - concerts, they are always 'amplified' & played via a Sure SM 58 mic & some poor cable & mixer & finally the output is from a chinese assembeled PA Speaker.
So what is played & what is heard are poles apart.
It is only in a 'baithak' or @ a 'rizas' that I shall be able to listen to the 'PURE' performance;
However, I do not have access to this.
If any forum member does & can get me in, I would be most indebt.
Please.... Do let me know if this is possible - in Mumbai / Pune. I will surely come.

I have my eyes on Monitor Audio BX2, Quad 11L2, PSB Image 6, Polk RTi A3, Paradigm Reference Studio/20

I realy don't know which one of these will be sub-par my sound preferences coz I cannot audition anyone of them before purchase.:sad::sad:

Sir,

I have heard & installed several of the above mentioned speakers in different audiophile houses - all except the Paradigm Ref Studio /20 & I can assure you, if you buy any of them 'without' an 'audition' you are going to be very disappointed. None of the performers will come to your room - I can promise that to you.....

I 'seriously' suggest you take a trip to Mumbai & 'audition' all the options, before you decide. That way you will know for sure what you are getting into.....

p.s. I used to own a Paradigm Esprit Series Floor Stander many many years back as a front main speaker in my HT set up. Back in those days I was playing the HT game...

Go with Paradigm ref studio  , pretty sure you wont be disappointed....

Deep, tight, punchy bass with vocals like singer is singing standing next before me, and treble should be smooth only, not sparky at all. I hate boomy bass.

@ abhi_jollyguy
With due respect, How do you hope to get all those [coloured] attributes from a speaker that costs Rs. 20/- to Rs. 25/- K ?

I have not heard speakers that cost US $'s 40/- to US $'s 60/- K that can do that for you....

I seriously recommend a 'personal' audition in Mumbai with all 'respective dealerships' so that you will know what the ground reality is....
Just my humble suggestion...

shanti

you are right shanti different mics do different things i know while dubbing for a film in mumbai empire studios andheri e. we tried different mics for vocals most natural mic was AKG so yea mics do make a lot of difference and these are really costly mics cost beyond the reach of concert players each speakers itself costing arnd 24 lacks! with more costly acoustically measured rooms. u can even hear all the rumbles and grumbles which happens in our stomach when actors u don't eat anything in the morning so we make them have some non oily food. but still no one can be sure its truly the most naturalistic (unrecorded) direct signal setup. i was lucky enough even to be in a dolby mixing studio VIP plaza in front of infinity mall andheri (e) sound of film theaters are not even close to the sound of a Dolby mastered studio's and u will laugh when ill say i found it very "BRIGHT". i will be buying a small HTR and 5.1 speakers and save the money for watching movies in cinema hall that will be a real VFM! studios speakers are 1 way "MUSIC IS RECORDER IN 1 WAY" means single driver does it all and audiophiles except true music with 4 way floorstanders! and 2.1 systems for music! lots of people buy it and instead of enjoying the music they keep setting bass crossovers and setting other knobs on SW and they never get it right and yea plugging different brand cables silver, bronze, gold, plastic. all this for what?

abhi_jollyguy buy the speakers which sounds good instead of a singer singing in front of u. audition or buy the setup which is recommended on HFV or other international forums and let me know when u buy and performers wont come to your house unless u pay them a million and that's a million per day basis ;) no artist will sing cheap for u. buy a good speaker instead!

Hi Abhi,
Please don't be sad.

Since you are just about to get your feet wet in Hi-Fi exploration, my suggestion is don't let the gear be the "final" source of your musical enjoyment. Your final source of enjoyment should be the musical composition (be it by Rehman or Mahler etc.). Classic comosition still remain classics even you don't get to hear 3 instruments out of the group of 10 instruments in orchestra.

Very often we (i.e the early entrants to scene, start getting analytical about gear to the point of becoming paranoid). This is very unfortunate... because one day you will find a rickshwallah enjoying an old lo-fi Mohd. Rafi song on his cheap radio, whereas all you will notice is the low freq.spectrum /dynamics of the radio, while totally missing out on the "message" and "beauty" of the song.

I request, you should't join the legions of "dissatisfied" "upper-crust" of INDIA who have the moolah to buy hi-fi gear that even !% of BHARAT doesn't even know about.

Your preferences would be served quite well with BX2. Yes, if you spend another 1 lac, they may be served better. But you have to stop somewhere and start enjoying the composition.

Regds,
Sonosphere
