Floorstanding Speakers or Studio Monitors?

Re: Floorstanding Speakers or Studio Monitors? (Mainly for Movies)

But you have to stop somewhere and start enjoying the composition.
Sonosphere

Sir,
If it is about musical appreciation, then an I-Pod will suffice.
Good Head Phones [Shure] to go along & musically you will be in paradise.
All be it without the performer standing next to you.

This forum is not only about music.
It is about the 'true' representation of 'recorded' music that can come as close to a 'real' performance as possible.

If music appreciation is important then a made in chine FM Radio too will suffice.
Why are we playing the Hi-Fi Game ???

This thread started with the need of Abhi to get the performer into his house.
There after to stand or sit next next to him, therefore all the efforts are being made.
If it was just for the music - nothing can beat an i-pod @ its price. Superb device & supremely convenient & easy to use - also rather cheap...

:D

Re: Floorstanding Speakers or Studio Monitors? (Mainly for Movies)

Hi Abhi,
Please don't be sad.

Since you are just about to get your feet wet in Hi-Fi exploration, my suggestion is don't let the gear be the "final" source of your musical enjoyment. Your final source of enjoyment should be the musical composition (be it by Rehman or Mahler etc.). Classic comosition still remain classics even you don't get to hear 3 instruments out of the group of 10 instruments in orchestra.

Very often we (i.e the early entrants to scene, start getting analytical about gear to the point of becoming paranoid). This is very unfortunate... because one day you will find a rickshwallah enjoying an old lo-fi Mohd. Rafi song on his cheap radio, whereas all you will notice is the low freq.spectrum /dynamics of the radio, while totally missing out on the "message" and "beauty" of the song.

I request, you should't join the legions of "dissatisfied" "upper-crust" of INDIA who have the moolah to buy hi-fi gear that even !% of BHARAT doesn't even know about.

Your preferences would be served quite well with BX2. Yes, if you spend another 1 lac, they may be served better. But you have to stop somewhere and start enjoying the composition.

Regds,

Deep, tight, punchy bass with vocals like singer is singing standing next before me, and treble should be smooth only, not sparky at all. I hate boomy bass.

This is what Abhi needs - hence the thread...

If it was musical satisfaction any set up would work, I am sure....
However, if one needs to wear a 4CT 'D' IF Diamond, one has to pay for it !!!

CT = Karat
D = Colour
IF = Internally Flawless

All good things cost a lot of money - unfortunately.... there is no getting away from that....
:ohyeah:

Ouch! that hurts. Still recovering from a recent encounter with those damn alphanumeric codes

Plz do tell me how are:
1. PSB Image B6
2. Polk RTi A3

PSB Speakers - Image B6 Bookshelf
https://www.polkaudio.com/homeaudio/rtia/index.php?s=rtia3

Which one of these will perfectly suit my sound preferences?

Between the 2 I would suggest PA - RTi3

However do bear in mind - none will do this for you :-

btw - none of these 2 options will give you deep bass - their F3's are way too high.
The Bass will not be boomy if you place them at least 18" from rear wall. The Treble will be a bit too bright, but you can use some kind of cables to tone it down - vDH types - I think.....

Monitor Audio BX2 or Polk Audio RTi A3 or PSB Image B6?

Which one will suit more to my sound preferences???

I have Altec Lansing MX-5021 with ASUS Xonar DX and I am very much happy with it's sound quality though I know that the above one's will definitely better than AL MX5021 but then also plz help me in chosing the correct speaker set with the stereo AMP.

so which speakers will serve me the best according to the need of what I want

Now thats a 'difficult' one....

You may have to go for a speaker that has a 'soft' presentation, else the tweeter will 'get to you'

If you need any form of bass re-enforcement, then a book shelf may be more suited. Please do understand that a floor stander & a book shelf occupy the same space.

The B/S is more suited for smaller rooms...
How big is your listening room - space ?
Thumb rule - under 200 sq. ft. use a book sheft & above 200 sq. ft. go for a floor stander.

The Bigger the room, the more power you will need & bigger the speaker needs to be so as to fill the room with 'enough sound'

Will write in a bit & will also post speaker options !!

I use the same @ home on my son's desk top computer.
It is an excellent computer speaker & am very very happy with it....

However, what we are looking @ is rather different and a bit more refined...

Xavian.com.pl

The main web site seems to be down.

However, I used to have the XN-360 from this company & it is [used] to be an excellent speaker.
Roberto is a talented designer & his speakers are now sold in India.
I would suggest their use rather strongly...
I do not know how they are priced in India, but the product is excellent...
Give them a listen & consider them too.

Re: Floorstanding Speakers or Studio Monitors? (Mainly for Movies)

My budget is around Rs. 20,000 or may be 25,000(only for speakers) Remember: I need left and right pair only, not at all interested in surround sound.

With that budget in place, why not settle for Audioengine A5?

Clearly all the 'attributes' that you want can't be achieved in your budget. A reasonable compromise would be a powered monitor like A5. If needed you an always add a sub later. There are options in any price range from Atkimate, Sonodyne, Quad, AVI, Dyn, ATC....

Alternatively, assuming you want to use them with your TV for a 'fuller' sound, try these combinations as well - with an entry level amp from CA, Marantz or your fav Norge.

1. Diamond 9.1 + SW150 (together might be out of your budget, unless bought used + stands)
2. Diamond 9.5/9.6 (the former is a decent one but highly underestimated imo)

These are relatively cheap and well received in your price range.

Cheers.

GamuT Audio Dyna Series is another product you may want to consider - do look them up.
@ 180 sq. ft. a small floor stander is a good option to consider.
6 to 7 inch woofer 2.5 way...

I will look for options & post...

hmm so which one of the three - Monitor Audio BX2, Polk Audio RTi A3 and PSB Image B6 will give me the bass quantity like MX-5021 though I think bass quality will be better than MX5021's and double or tripple clarity than the MX-5021?

tell me now plz

I may be blamed for 'blasphemy' but I truly like the AL 5021 for its 'fun sound'
It is a great computer speaker that plays club tracks & hindi commercial songs very well - like Zandu Balm kinds....
The only drawback is that is does not play 'loud'
The speaker options you are looking @ will not give you the bass of the 5021 but the high freq will surely be smoother....
If you want a 'free' solution, mount the 2 5021's next to your LCD & forget all this audio junk... You may be better off with just good music - no need to tread down the 'audiophile' path - it may only give to you dis contentment - imho...

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
