HiMedia OWNERSHIP THREAD

Ordered 600A from Detna yesterday....And within couple of hours got email saying it is shipped....but the bluedart website is not showing tracking details today morning as well.... I just hope it reaches me today.

Anyone tried installing xtreamer firmware on this? is it visibly or usably better than the default firmware?

Hmm I highly doubt that a product shipped yesterday from bangalore will reach ahemedabad today... You will probably receive it by tomm... Also there arnt any detailed guides as to how to install the xtreamer firmware safely... So I would recommend against it... Although I do hope someone would port XBMC to this... The basic interface is the only down point in this amazing player...

@baiju & Kittu Thanks guys for the update on the bluray player... Maybe I should email Raghu & ask him of some pics of it attached to the 900b(just to get an idea how it will look & feel) Also some details like does it play 3D blurays etc would be great... I was exploring the option of buying a external bluray player for my 900b but was scared about the compatibility...

yes rajadeep....many months back i had inquired with raghu whether 900B supports an external blu-ray drive, to which he had replied in negative. i was planning then to use an LG blu-ray drive (for 4k) with 900B.

but it seems now himedia has come up with some sort of solution with their external blu-ray drive, and it needs to be seen how it performs. even i would talk to him. this is really an exciting proposition :ohyeah:

Guys....

I am planning to visit Detna for a Demo on Monday........

Any questions you wanna ask from Raghu ;-) ??

Thanks

bludart tracking info is is rarely updated. Even after receiving an item, I could see the status as delayed/contact cc etc. DTDC has the best tracking solution in my experience.

I had experimented with xtreamer firmware on himedia hd600b and it worked, but the remote control didn't work correctly. You can try it, but keep a copy of himedia FW incase you want to revert.

When I sent back my 600B back to detna, they could not repair it. So they sent me a new piece through blue dart..next day afternoon, I received my media player in almost 24 hrs..
So it's quite possible that you might receive it on next day..

Hey there,
I emailed Raghu about the Bluray drive & he was kind enough to reply to my email so quickly... I hope he does not mind me quoting his email here

Hello Rajadeep,

Good to hear from you. Please find below are the details requested by you.

1) Price: Rs 3500 if bought with 900b else Rs 4500
2) Play 3D blurays: Yes
3) I can send you pictures of the player attached with 900b next week.

The external bluray drive is almost same as external dvd drive that you can buy for your laptop / PC.

I am also working on a accessory which can plug into media player for seamless integration.

Raghu

So it seems like the player will run 3D Blurays... I no normally external pc based drives do play bluray & are region free but could u pls chk it out for ur self... Also could u get some pics of it attached to the 900b(just for reference sake)... Also he mentioned working on some attachment to make it a seemless integration so u could quiz him about that too... Now about the price... I do feel it a a reasonable price that he is asking for it but could u pls ask him about ppl who have already bought a 900b a few months back(like myself)... Do we also get the 3500 price or do we have to pay 4500 for it... Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated & help us folk who are not from bangalore a great deal :)...

any hope for 900C or D ? inuild DVD / BD player will be better ?

also need suggestion.........i don't have 3D TV....so no point buying 900B ?? or there are other good feature like better sound or picture quality for those who don't have 3D TV??

Hmm Depends on what u want... If u dont want 3D then it would be better to go with the 600a/b/c/f option & save urself a few thousand bucks. Weather u chose a/b/c/f version depends on what u want to install into the player.. Like A version just is a slim player & any HDD or Bluray drive has to be attched externally... B version u can install a internal 3.5" HDD upto 3TB I think(I have a 2TB one installed in my 900b)... C version is for installing a internal Bluray drive which is used in PCs... F version is new so I have no idea what it does:p... You can get a better explanation when u go for a demo...

thanks Rajadeep........thats really helpfull.......any suggestion on best one in all (non 3D) as going forward i ll probably add 3D but i think that time players will be advanced too so better to buy 3D at that time :licklips: ??

I have 1 TD Seagate External HDD.......rightnow i am playing movies through LED TV USB and hope HiMedia player will change my experiance  ??

Thanks

I bought a Himedia 900b from Detna about a month back and recently bought a 1 TB Hitachi Sata Hard Disk for storing my data. The problem is that when i format the hard disk using fat 32 partition, the same is not recognized by the Media Player and if i use the media player to format the hard disk, the same doesn't work with the laptop (it shows 190 GB consumed without even a byte of data in it).

Please please help and tell me what to do and what should be the file allocation size while formatting the hard disk.

Please help !!!!! I am using windows 7 in my laptop and the partition was done using EasyUS partition manager 9.1.1.

You should format it in NTFS or EXT2 (linux). FAT has size limitations. Sometimes after doing this, the player may not show your HDD. In this case do a format from player.

finally got the player yesterday (Saturday) itself. Packaging was great! Shipping is lightning fast! it was shipped within 4 hrs of my placing the order. I thought 200 rs. for shipping was high but with so fast shipping through bluedart, don't mind it.

Thanks Detna!

I'll play around with this FW a bit. see if i can do something to display coverart properly.

OOOh I so wish XBMC gets ported to this player.

After banging my head everywhere and trying every kind of solution, i came across this post i thought i MUST share with every himedia owner or a would be owner......

Dear Himedia owners,
after lot of trials I would like to warn you about a compatibility issue with HDDs Sata III 6GB, like the recent WD Caviar Green series, such as WD30EZRX. A (let's hope 'official') firmware update should be urgent and needed to fix the problem. Obviously I contacted Himedia but, of course, no answer. On the contrary, Futeko has answered but saying they can't help.
Till when the fix will be available, please be aware that those harddisks could not work on your mediaplayer. Since they're currently made available on the market at a decent price, I thought to warn you before wasting money.
Regards

I have a hitachi Sata 6.0 Gb/s model no. HDS721010DE630 and it's not compatible with both the media player and the laptop, if i format it using the media player, its not recognized by the windows 7 and if i format it in FAT32 using the EaseUS partition manager, it is not recognized by the media player. I have tried formatting in NTFS, FAT 32, ExFAT and even the LINUX based partition but nothing worked.

So any suggestions are welcome here. This comes from a noob and i hope that the more technical people here should be able to sort this one out.

Guys.....

How diff is HiMedia (including External BD Player) product as compared to HTPC.........??

Also please suggest the best HiMedia non 3D model :-)

Media player - easy to use, out of the box experience. Not much to play around with and the interface is usually not great. Good for newbies.

HTPC -Mostly DIY. You need to assemble the pc, install windows, configure your media player like xbmc, but once you complete the full assembly, it is just awesome. No media player can match the beauty of the interface of xbmc. Supports any type of files, occasional gaming possible and better network and internet compatibility. Cost usually higher than that of media players.

If you have the itch for DIY, then consider HTPC else buy a media player. I sold my himedia 600B and assembled an HTPC and I'm proud of it.

If you want a media player first think will you need internal hdd slot or not. Himedia HD600B and 600C have internal hdd bay. 600A and 600F supports only external HDD.

thanks Baiju......thats really helpfull.....but i am still bit confused which one to buy...... i ll be using this mostly for movies..... i have never used XBMC before and not feeling tempted :licklips: for that :ohyeah:

Soooo avoiding any more confusion if i want to build it (or get it done form any small vendor) what will be the Best config for new one :licklips:

will be very helpfull if you can suggest 1 or max 2 product like MB / Graphics Card etc instead of multiple :)

thanks again

I have assembled two htpcs. One based on AMD fusion E350 mobo. This has onboard CPU and is especially made for HTPC purpose with power consumption around 20-25W only. It is a miniITX board. For your information I have listed it for sale in forum. Just add an HDD, install windows 7 and xbmc and you are done. The other one that I assembled recently is based on AMD A6 3500 processor and an Asus F1A75M mother board. This one is more expensive. For both these builds, you don't need any GPU as the onboard graphics is enough for 1080P blu-ray playback. You need GPU only if you want 3D support. If you have an old desktp, then you can convert it into htpc by adding a good gpu and psu.

Could you create a thread for your Antec fusion remote case HTPC if already not created?

I am interested to know how that works? if LCD display is working with XBMC?

Thanks in advance
