HSU 12" subwoofer driver and VTF-3 amplifier

Both my sons in the US have Hsu VTF subwoofers paired with Altec 2 ways, enclosures are of Birch plywood. Both their systems use Transcendant Sound Grounded Grid preamps and Class A SET amps, one has the Wavelength Audio Bugle design with 45s, the other a 300B.
Both like the HSU subs, though the rest of their systems are also good.
Thanks George, my inclination towards HSU during the last PE sale is not bad considering your quote :)

I used the broad guidelines from the PE site, IIRC. It's about 2x2x2 ft enclosure made in MDF with a veneer outer surface and the port was a 3 or 4 inch one with an elbow.
Thanks, is there a marked difference between an MDF enclosure and birch plywood? MDF is also available in different densities.

Oh wow. This will be an interesting threade. I am also thinking on similar lines.

However what brought me to this idea is this car sub on Amazon

Wonder how it would work in a medium sized living room powered by a crown amp.

From what I've read car amps don't do well in home environments. Tuned for more output higher up than home subs

Yes this is a passive sub, wondering how it would be with a crown power amp. Anyways,it's still just a thought, maybe will create a new thread if and when I decide to pursue it.

Did someone build a HSU subwoofer using their 12" driver and its pairing with VTF-3 plate amplifier? I am looking at DIY ideas of building a subwoofer as I have got with me and want to build a good sub for my music needs (I do not have any HT presently ;)) I have not seen any DIY build thread using this as it is more of a commercial design by HSU guys.

Thanks

Iam totally dumb at subs :D

But this is something different i came across recently.

I think @Naveenbnc did a W-frame build or a ripole. Don't remember but there is somebody who has taken a stab at it in our forum.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
