If one would think Indian Customs is expensive for electronics.........🤔

This was not due to customs duty, but due to carrying undeclared meat products, which is considered a bio-hazard. Many countries have huge fines for carrying such products - even fresh fruits etc. which can contaminate the local products with unknown pests etc.
Cheers,
Sid

Yes Sid, but it was purchased from the Christchurch airport.
Certain seeds etc are generally not permitted in certain countries. But they sure are quite paranoid about eatables.
Off course the laws of a country have to be respected. But that sandwich sure turned out to be a very expensive one.

Yeah…bio-hazard, I remember one famous Indian cricketer was fined too entering New Zealand because he had soil (from other country) stuck in his cricketing boots in his baggage.

When you fly to Hawaii from mainland USA, similar rules apply, even though both are in USA. You have to fill a declaration form and penalty for violation is $1000 and above. Since Hawaii is an island, they are very worried about mainland hazards entering their fragile ecosystem.
