LG vs Sony OLEDs

In 1080p SDR, there is less flashing near blacks on LG. It is like Sony is struggling a bit to keep up with low bit content. LG is better in such scenario

In 4K SDR, the image is more clean on Sony with more shadow details and rich colours even in darker areas.

In 4K HDR, the Sony bit more stable with consistent picture whereas the LG, though brighter, can appear a tad brighter or dim in the same show. It is like LG’s priority is brighter highlights (so perceptually sharper and missing dark details) whereas Sony is favours consistently flattens the image. Sony, it looks like, has more colour volume (in HDR via Panasonic UB820 - Skyfall, Blade Runner 2049, Interstellar).

LG dazzles. Sony is cinematic. :)
Well summed up.
Was perplexing to me as well on LG appearing brighter and dimmer in the same show.

To conclude the raised black issue. It seem to have been observed by HDTVTest too..

He mentions about it in around 10:55-11:30 and also about switching off dynamic tone mapping to avoid unnecessary brightening of picture.

So it is not panel variance, the default setting of 50 has raised black issue or atleast gives the appearance. It cannot be panel variance if it us spread through 3 tvs across the world.

For me, either keeping the brightness at 48 and leaving dynamic tone mapping on or keeping brightness at 49 and disabling dynamic tone mapping both got rid of the issue and looks more or less similar.

CX owners just stay away from brightness 50 if you see black issues, you are good to go.

If the black level setting slides show 50 as ideal brightness, you have to settle for 49 and miss some shadow details till there comes a firmware fix.

Edit : The reason we are not seeing the issue in black level setting slide is because it is not appearing in stable near black. It appears when the scene goes into or comes out of near black as he mentions. Very prevalent in LG demo video @Love4sound shared.

Edit2: You can see the issue in the background when he is talking too. Around 11:00-11:10.

Sony must enter the market of OLED panel manufacturing. Otherwise they would have to dance to the tunes of LG. And moreover Sony needs to improve its Remote design and user friendliness. Sony has to reduce its price too and become competitive. The only thing going for Sony is its processor.
TRUE man. Finally it's a game by LG. LG makes Sony purposely keeps it's prices higher so people will go for LG.

I don’t think LG has anything to do or has any influence with Sony pricing. Sony is a premium brand in television like how Apple is for mobiles. Sony always commands more price over LG. Sony is compensating the cost of purchasing the panel from LG by not giving the extra features LG provides like HDMI 2.1, a premium remote and even has a plastic finish over the LG metallic finish. Even if Sony makes it’s own panel you can’t expect them to price it’s Tv less then LG for sure.

Vincent thinks QD oled is not going to find impetus as QNED, another cutting edge technology will hit the mass market in two years with a bang. So their R and D into QD QLED will water down in a couple of years. He is right.
