Hi Guys,

I am on the lookout for amp and speakers at my new place. The retailer Gave me an option of Model 50+eversolo DAP-A6 2nd gen+B&W 606 as a combination. But i was also looking at the other option thats either
1.Yamaha AS-1200+eversolo
2.Yamaha RN-2000a
I had a Marantz PM-6007 back home paired with a wiim pro and polk ES20 and i liked the sound. However the build of the yamahas and a yearning to try something different is on my mind.i have audiotioning lined up for yamaha next sat for the yamahas+paradigm and probably will schedule one for the marantz but at different locations so i cant do a side by side comparison.
I have two questions:-
1. Which speakers do Yamahas pair well with(i guess something a bit warm will)
2.Is the AS-1200+eversolo a better option or is the single box solution of RN-2000a the better one?
Also if anyone has heard these amps whats ur take.My music choice is mainly hindi songs or regional ones.i cant decide yet which one to opt for as once bought it would be difficult to return it.So if anyone has any comments please let me know here.

deciding to go with the yamaha, maybe RN-2000a.now need to find speakers that arent that bright.Paradigms,Qacoustics,Totem and Klipsch are the options at a nearby retailer and B&W elsewhere. Can anyone having yamaha please chime in with their experience.

I am a fan of Yamaha. Presently using a vintage avr for music. The AS series is pretty good if you are looking for 2 channel stereo.

yes am almost decided to buy yamaha.currently leaning towards the RN-2000a as its a one box solution and also because reviews seem to suggest that AS-1200 has a lean mid range.
What i cant decide is which floorstander to get.Reason being that i dont want fatiguing sibilant highs but a bit more silkier high with clear details. My seating distance from the place where i am planning to keep my yamaha is barely 2.4-2.5m.

Yamaha should pair well with most brands. Dali, B&W. Better to tryout with the amp you plan to buy and then decide which is to your liking.

are you sure about b&W?I have seen a used B&W 603 S2 anniversary edition towers but i heard that they have high treble which may feel fatiguing.I cant try out B&W with yamaha as the retailer doesnt stock them.I know that yamaha has emphasis on high frequencies.I also saw the Wharfdale Heritage Lintons. How do they pair with yamaha?Any idea?

today i auditioned the marantz 40N and the yamaha RN-2000A.these were the speakers
1.totem bison floorstanders
2.paradigm founder 80f
3.qaccoustics concept 50 and 5040
4.klipsch R8000F mk2

I initially heard the Yamaha connected via tidal connect.the yamahas had clear instruments and seperation but it was nothing exciting where you feel like tapping your legs along with the song.the sound is not the classical yamaha sound.its more warm and rounded but it lacks weight in the vocals.also the sound wasnt linear,i mean as you decrease the sound the yamahas felt a bit veiled or lacking life but on higher decibels it opened up the paradigms.the paradigms were more nuanced unlike the klipsch which was more articulate and well sounding but more in your face.i felt like it lacked the airy spaciousness.
With the marantz.wow.with the klipsch it was a revelation.more heft to the music.the seperation is good, not as analytical as the yammy but its pleasant to the ears. With the paradigms too they sounded good.
since i had a marantz back home in india i was gravitating more towards the yamaha due to the vu metres and a different sound but hey i wasnt impressed as much as i was with the marantz.i had another person too along with me and he had the same feeling with the yamaha.not exciting enough.i went back to the yamaha again with the same speakers to find if i was indeed right feeling this way and i wasnt wrong.the yammys felt so unexciting and kind of held back or lean(i dont know how to say it).
now i probabaly would have to audition the yamaha with the bowers and wilkins at somewhere else too.i have one more listening session at the same place in 2 weeks just between the yamaha and the marantz with the paradigms and the klipsch.if i finally like the marantz sound i may go for the Model 50.will keep updating this thread.feel free to drop in your comments.

If the Yamaha has tone controls then try increasing the treble to make it more lively.
I was under the impression that Yamaha amps leaned more towards the higher frequences atleast in the mid levels amps that I heard years back. All the best for your search.
In fact Marantz has rolled off higher frequencies which I prefer.

Yes i didnt use the tone controls.i will next time.its not only the higher frequencies.like in the song sukoon the male vocals dont have a weight.it is not as lean as earlier yamahas but still is more treble specific and thin.and thr marantz has that waem sound but some boominess even in a proper listening room for some tracks.

In case if you want an amp with VU meters & tone controls with fuller vocals and on the warmer side with similar specs & price range, then you can try the Vincent SV 228 . It is a hybrid amp with inexpensive tubes in the preamp stage and solid state power amp with HT bypass.

An fm in the forum has it and is very happy with it. You can take a demo if it is available in your vicinity.

Whats the budget for both speaker and amplifier combined? and is the amplifier selection between marantz and yamaha only?

the budget is around 7000-8000cad as of now, though i would have loved to go lower.

regarding amplifier selection no,but since the nearby refailers only have these or max,NAD which i am not too keen on.

went for the second audition today.
Tried Marantz 40N and yamaha RN-2000A with Klipsch R8000F II and Paradigm founder 80F.
With the paradigms both the amplifiers sounded meh.Too revealing but vocals totally recessed giving more space to the instruments.
With the Klipsch both sounded good. The yamahas sounded warm but the mids were a bit lean to my liking. Not exciting and lacking weight.Hence decided to choose the Marantz.
Got audition at another store to hear the marantz with the B&W 603 towers as theres a used one nearby in marketplace.
However had a question.Should i go with the 40N or model 50 and get eversolo A6 gen2 /Blusound icon/Blusound node. The eversolo is only because it has apple music integrated via the app.
Any comments.I plan to if possible place the order tomorrow as its a black friday week.

auditioned the marantz with eversolo and node x.nothing to write home about.the internal marantz dac felt better.
However befoee leaving they hooked up moonaudio neo 340d3px.connected to b&w 603 towers.wow what a revelation.this amp is yamaha and marantz sound blended into one.great vocals, tight bass, excellent seperation and imaging.so lively that i listened till the store closed.however listening via the node x on the same wasnt that great compared to its internal dac but hey it still sounded eons better than wat i have listened to yet.
The store offered a unit at lesser price of 3500cad of the pure analog 340ix with a 10 year warranty.
cons:-
the front volume dial is very loose..feels like a cheap one.the remote looks like those toy mobiles we see.if this is discounted then this amp is super sounding.
now am sadly torn btw this and the marantz 40N.i wish is hadnt auditioned this

listened to the following speakers over Moon 340d3px internal dac
1.B&W 603 S2 - analytical,bright(not fatiguing it seems),tight base,Exciting
2.Dynaudio Emit T30 - Too boomy bass,Veiled sound,too warm
3.Monitor Audio Bronze - bit more clearer sounding,A bit boomy bass on some tracks, much better than Emit 30
4.Moon Voice 22(bookshelf) - clear,analytical.Bass controlled but nothing exciting.good speaker
5.Dali Oberon bookshelves - clear and comtrol, tight bass, not exciting though
6.Sonus Faber Lumia 3 - was really good,Not as bright as B&W,yet bright enough and great bass control.

finally bought b&w 603 s3.i auditioned moon with paradigm 80f today and now i think yamaha would have too been good with thisnor monitor audio.maybe the speakers i heard in on was the reason it felt dull
