Finally I have started the work on my new 5.1 home theater as I move to our new flat.
This is a dedicated room 14 X 11 ft , not very big size but I guess decent enough. It will be primarily used for viewing Bluray movies.
I hardware to be used is
1. Projecter - Panasonic AE 4000
2. AV Reciever - Yamaha Rxv 2700
3. Front and Centre - Polk Audio Rti 7 and Csi4
4. Rear - Polk Fxi A4
5. Subwoofer - Yamaha
6. Bluray - Sony PS3
7. AC ryan Media Player
8. Projector Screen 106 "(16:9) - fixed TBD - Any ideas welcome on which screen to procure

The initial work just started. I have just completed the wiring and the false roofing work has started. Front window will be covered and will be repalced by screen.

Looking forward for your comments to make it a great room. Will keep you all updated as it progresses

Uploading some of the early pictures. Will post more as the work progresses.

Equipment list looks good, especially the projector. A good option for screen is "DaLite'. Check on the web.

Thanks. I got a quote of around 18000 for a 106" Galite screeen fixed frame. Anybody has experience with this screen ?
Any iputs on the lighting for the roof

Check out some good threads like Santosh's home theater build or Vinay's home theater or Srinisundar in the home theater section.

You would want to block the window and seal it off as an open window will always be a pain. If you are sealing off the room, you would also need an AC, typically one with low noise like Daikin.

Dalite would be the best in the market, search the forum for feedback from people as also what suits better (low gain/high gain; grey/white). There are other cheaper brands like Grandview and even some local manufacturers.

Nice to see another movie buff living my dream.:)

Regarding that false ceiling, any previous experience whether the thin aluminium supports for the GYp board will vibrate along the board during strong LF reverberations? Just a doubt I'm trying to clear in my research up to build my own HT.
THanks

Lighting

For lighting, halogens would be idle with dimmer options + small chandeliers and more options as done by other members.

There are more options like in-direct tube lights of yellowish type that can be placed on both corners of the full side walls (2 or 3 feet away from screen), if this idea appeals then you can consider such 6 tube lights, 3 on each side. These lights can not be visible with the help of false ceiling. This option is more beneficial for regular movie watchers.

A normal tube light and related should be considered to completely avoid especially if it is a dedicated room.

Wouldn't chandeliers vibrate during powerful low frequency sound? Initially I was thinking of chandeliers model lights with dimmer, then I thought it may be bad for the audio.

Chandeliers

I have four of these chandeliers but are quite small in size and of high quality, maybe that is why they are barely effected by low frequencies. You can see these chandeliers in video of my "Mini Theater".

Hi All

We finally moved into the house and I have completed the initial setup of my home theater.
Here are some initial pictures, Any suggestions to improve the setup will be appreciated.
Next week the floor will be carpeted wall to wall.

Picture and the sound comes out quite well, however I will undertake some basic acoutic treatment to create a Reflection free listening zone.
