ortofon alpha cartridge verses ortofon 2M red cartridge

hi Friends i am planning to buy Project Xpression III TT which is supplied with Ortofon alpha cartridge. I didnt get much information on that cart except that it is probably discontinued. I was wondering should i get it replaced with ortofon 2M red cart? will that be an improvement?

Its abt 35k+ But has a carbon fiber tonearm and 2m red is a dealer option too.
As about performance, it isnt a high gain cart hence a good phono stage is mandatory.

The 2M red is an MM cartridge. Any decent MM phono stage should do fine.

The Ortofon Alpha may be a factory fitted MM cartridge specifically manufactured for the Pro-ject range, which is why there may not be information available elsewhere. You should, perhaps, check out the sound before looking for a replacement.
