Ringing noise

Do you hear this ringing ONLY IN YOUR HT Room ?

Then its most probably room resonance n not yr ear (Your hearing test indicate an initial OK for yr ears)

It’s more prominent in the HT room but in the hall and other bedroom I hear it as well.Hopefully the severity will be known after i meet the doctor with audio gram and MRI results

I have it as well. Started about a month back. During the day its not noticeable but at night when everything's silent i hear continous faint noise of wind gushing in my left ear. No hearing loss. Just that noise. It's Tinnitus.
I hope it doesnt get severe with age which is very much likely.

Ok better consult with an ENT. It may not be Tinnitus but other factors such as cold, climate change, wax etc. so better visit an ENT.

I developed Tinnitus suddenly a couple of years ago. Or maybe I had it all along and didn't notice it. It's a faint high pitched sound and is more of a slight irritant than anything else in very silent spaces. ENT specialists did their tests and found nothing wrong with my hearing or anything that could cause it. They prescribed vitamins etc and when that didn't work I learnt to ignore it. I find that when I'm on antibiotics for some other ailment, the tinnitus goes away. Almost! Then it comes back. Drinking a little apple cider vinegar every day supresses the ringing to near zero levels for me. PM me if you want the recipe. Homeopathy worked after a two month treatment but the ringing never went away completely. I find that anxiety or stress increases the SPL (Ha!) of the ringing. I heard that meditating helps but I'm too restless (in my mind) to meditate. I hope that all goes well with you.

Thanks will PM. As per my research once it comes it never goes away. All we can do is make sure it doesn’t get worse and learn to live with it. I actually had this noise 2-3 years back as long as I can remember but thought it’s due to some external factors or room resonance and ignored it. Lately my brother was explaining about tinnitus and now I can’t take my mind of it. If I am out of my home it doesn’t bug me but the second I enter my home the ringing starts. Currently it’s in a stage where it doesn’t affect me if I am occupied with something. So I need to make sure it stays at this level.

It happens to me when I stop playing music on my newly acquired tube amp at 50% volume in a well-dampened HT room. I must say that my tube amp is bass heavy with kt88 tubes. I did not notice it earlier in much powerful solid state amps. It sounds like a mike feedback sound in an auditorium but very subtle.

Ok in your case it seems like external.

Hope it's nothing alarming and it gets better soon.

Even I have started experiencing now this since I read this thread :(

May be it is in your mind then. During cold weather, or due to wax also one tends to hear a ringing sound. Tinnitus is something different so don’t worry and if it’s bothering u, have an ENT check and confirm. Now I feel bad starting this thread. Dear FM’s kindly excuse me. I didn’t mean to worry any one and just reached out for help.

Hello,
Just sharing my knowledge. Tinnitus can result due to a variety of causes, but in a scenario excepting infection and trauma to the ear, the main cause can be considered as prolonged noise exposure.
Though, listening to music at moderate volumes of about 55-65 dB is deemed as safe, prolonged listening sessions in a given day, can result in a higher degree of trauma to the auditory nerve. This constant abuse provided to the nerve, results in the nerve being unable to "effectively" receive sound stimulus, and hence the individual hears a ringing sound when there is a lack of ambient noise from the surroundings.

My advice would be to moderate your music listening for about 60-90 days and continue a course of nerve vitamin as prescribed by your ENT consultant. After the mentioned period, I would advise you to perform an Audiometric test to re-evaluate your hearing assessment and compare to the previously done Audiometry test.

Please PM if you're having further doubts.

Best regards,
Dr. Harsha

Thanks a lot I will definitely check with you later.By next week I will complete my MRI and audio gram test which the ENT doctor advised.

Dear Fm’s

My HT room is very silent and I hear a strong ringing noise. It’s the sound when you get a strong and tight slap. So while I pause a scene or on quiet scenes it’s highly disturbing and annoying. Has any one experienced it? Recently it’s gotten worse and I am hearing the ringing sound in every silent environment. Did my research and came across the condition tinnitus. One root cause is exposure to loud sound.
From my limited knowledge, auditory and nerve problems are usually connected with a methyl/cyano cobalamin (aka Vit B12) deficiency. Check with your ENT surgeon or doctor accordingly.

Thanks and yes already met with an ENT. Have to visit with MRI and audio gram results
