RIP - Irrfan Khan

One of very few who made us feel 'at home' or 'one of us'. His performances were so easy to follow or become a part of. Very sad to see him going and even sadder how he had to transition at such an age.

Have never been so disheartened on hearing any other celebrity's demise. Saw his last film, Angrezi Medium, few days ago only and was so amazed to see how brilliantly he made a mediocre film worth watching with his talent. Still in shock that he is no more! Such a big loss to Indian and International film industry. May his soul rest in peace!

Of the number of remembrance messages for Irrfan Khan yesterday, AIB’s Tanmay Bhat’s stood out in how it gives an insight into the ‘person’ Irrfan was.

Naseer on Irrfan in Indian Express today

Thank you for posting the tribute.

A lot of people have wondered by have cinema watchers (which is literally the whole of the nation) taken Irfan’s death as a personal loss. I wondered too. Finally, it was a great thinking actor, Naseeruddin Shah, who deciphered it in his tribute:

“When you watched him act, you felt as if you could read his mind. He never made an effort to reach you. This is a strange paradox about Irrfan as an actor. An actor always makes efforts to reach out to his audience. Irrfan knew the audience would reach out to him. People who have known him only through his work have felt a personal connect with him.”

Here‘s a tribute by Irrfan’s wife and long term (35 years) companion, Sutapa Sikander which is an eye-opener of sorts on how the family, including herself and Irrfan took the illness and eventual death so gracefully.
