Sachal Jazz -Interpretations of Jazz standards....

Interesting. I should start scouring the shops for a copy. Dave has very cautiously called it the most interesting and different recording of Take Five he as ever heard. Somehow the lacks of heavy drums left a void.

Cheers

Heard all the songs today after reading about it in the newspaper today morning.... nice versions of all the classics although Anand Shankar had a similar sound as well....had he covered all the songs in the 70s it would probably have sounded just the same I think...

Waiting to buy the album...

Lovely stuff, Thanks for posting this Rajiv. I still have the wonderful memory of listening to Dave Brubeks Take 5 Lp at your place. Magical it was! This just enhances it.

Panditji, I am presuming the report you read in the newspaper was written by me :)
The album was recorded in Lahore in a real swank studio that was built with the help of consultants from Abbey Road. The mixing and mastering was done at Abbey Road.
Izzat Majeed, the man behind the album, has despatched a box of CDs of the album, with a message that he has included some extra copies I could give friends in India. I am still waiting for the box to reach me though.
I will be in Delhi later this week and could POSSIBLY have some copies to give away on a first come, first served basis (keep in mind, this can only be done if I get the CDs before I leave for Delhi).
Cheers.

Sir, I will be standing first in the line outside your room...do let me know how and when i could get a copy of the cd ... It would be great to have you over in Faridabad and we could listen to different versions of the same tracks over drinks .....is'nt that the right way to enjoy Bossa Nova (;-)

Just downloaded the album finally and it is simply superb....Waiting to order it now....Hoping to buy a copy from wishihadtubes otherwise will order it from their website...

A must listen for all those who love Bossa Nova.....

Finally got a copy of the CD released in India by Times Music....Have been searching the Internet for 7 months and I guess Times are the first to release in on CD....
Can't wait for the next edition....

I too picked up the Times Music release after reading this thread. Best album I've purchased this year so far. I especially like "This Guy's In Love With You" (Burt Bacharach & Hal Davis). Very beautiful string orchestration with a pinch of piano thrown in to spice up the proceedings. Overall, I do miss the absence of standing bass or weightier percussions.

If you like that song, then do try and get covers/instrumentals of Burt Bacharach's other songs...... I have an obsession with collecting different versions of his music and artists likes 101 Strings, Cal Tjader, Oscar Peterson, Steve Tyrell, Frank Chacksfield orchestra and many others have taken out tribute albums to his music....

I am so looking forward to Izzat Majeed's next release with the same set of musicians covering other standards....

I do have a few Bacharach albums on LP. Thanks for the pointers on the artists you mentioned - will surely look out for them.

Would be great if you could guide me to those albums if they are Bacharach's work covered by other artists......

Forgot to mention - the best covers are done by Stanley Turrentine...

What I have on records are:
1) Burt Bacharach: Reach Out
2) The Best Of Bacharach - artists are Dusty Springfield, the Jack Nathan Orchestra, The Walker Brothers, Julie Rogers, Ronnie Carroll, Madeline Bell, Frankie Vaughn, Dee Dee Warwick, and The Wally Stott Chorale.

On CD, I have:
1) Trintje Oosterhuis - The Look of Love (my intro to Bacharach)
2) When Ronan Met Burt: quite listenable. I initially didn't like it much mainly because I never cared too much for Ronan Keating and boy band mates, but prolonged listening did bring out the inherent goodness.
