I leave Belkin Gold surge protector ON all the time and dont switch OFF the TV manually . However you can switch OFF tv when not watching at night ,no harm IMO.
I dont think UPS is necessary though i bought one recently for my 51d490. Its APC 1.1KVA model. Some experts may tell is UPS really necessary for Plasma?
