Have been researching the SONY 40V550 / SONY 40S550 series LCDs with BE3. Comparing these to the SAMSUNG LA40B530 & LA40B550 both having DNIE+ & WCE 2.

Main purpose will be to watch SD content only and very occasional XBOX 360.

Tata Sky (SD content) and VCD / DVD movies (SD content) will be 95% of the viewing. Understand that for these requirements Plasma is the best option. But for now, have decided on LCD for numerous reasons. On this forum, have been reading that the BE3 really handles SD content very well.

A bit confused from a technical point, which feature in SAMSUNG does the SAME JOB as the BE3. Is it the DNIE+ or WCE 2? Or speaking otherwise, does the SAMSUNG have any processor to handle SD content as good as or better than the BE3?

Does the BE3 really measure up to being a better processing engine FOR SD CONTENT, as compared to the SAMSUNG B series having DNIE+ & WCE 2? If yes, is that premium for SONY with the BE3 really worth it?

On the SONY India website, the SONY 40V550 & SONY 40S550 show identical specs, then why is the SONY 40V550 around 10K more expensive then the SONY 40S550?

from the latest reviews it appears that samsung's image processing is now as good as sony's, so no, the premium is not worth it. Check out the HDTVtest site, and out of their top 5 flat panel displays, 1 is a pioneer plasma, another is a panasonic plasma, two are samsung LCDs, and one is a Sony LCD. Samsung LCDs appear to be better value for money.

well samsung image processing have also been improved in response to sonys BE3,the samsung does a bit better in interlaced videos, but sony however upscales slightly better, its input lag is also slightly lower then the samsungs so its good for gaming.

while the sony usualy carries a higher price, the main reason for the huge difference in india is that the sony is a direct import which is subjected to around 30% or more customs duties, where as the samsung assembles them in india with some local made electronic components,it only imports the lcd panel along with the backlight which is subjected to only 10% customs duties and now reduced to 5% after the recent budget.
sonys however are cheaper in the grey market ,they sell like hotcakes ,where they outsell all other brands.

Thanks.

But my original question/s still not fully answered. What is the equivalent of SONY's BE3 is SAMSUNGs? Does BE3 really upscale SD content a notch better than the corresponding SAMSUNGs?
