For all the participants of this thread, thank you very much for your valuable suggestions.

Actually, the last two meets were done exactly the way many of you are suggesting. Actually, if we were to conduct the meet in one single hall, I can organise it in my Club for a pittance.

Based on our observations during the two previous meets, we have concluded that demonstrating multiple equipments at a single place not only involves a lot of hassles, wastage of time and less than optimum seating, placement issues but no meaningful auditioning can take place.

Moreover, since we are going to approach dealers for sponsoring the meets, allotting them a time of just half an hour or so is not justifiable especially in the face of the constraints that I've listed above. One room for one set up would by and large mitigate most of the issues that I have pointed out.

We have named some Hotels where we can get substantial discounts on the rooms and hall and would work out to be very cost effective.

Lastly, we are making an attempt to do it in a different and what we perceive to be a better way and would depend on the revenue stream of sponsorships by the dealers. If it doesn't work out, we can always fall back on the old method.

Hi Srisundar,

I think paying for a Taj hotel room for two days to demo my personal equipment would be too expensive for me (probably for other hobbyists too). I guess it would be more suitable for dealers and distributors who have a commercial interest.
I would be happy to volunteer only.

Regds,
KiranPS.

Dont worry, there will be less burden on cost for the members like usual meet and we will try to get sponsors.;)

Thanks for the suggestion... If you read my first thread initially we are thinking of organizing in a better way so every system can be heard by all with their convenience.

If our planning workout, no time slot for every members system,, through out the day all the systems will be singing with your requested tracks..:) including sponsors brought systems.. You are free to walk in any room to hear.

Exactly.

There has been nothing wrong with previous meets, other than some wasted time. Whilst some might have found this frustrating (certainly those waiting to do a commercial presentation did) most just socialised.

I have made the point (already mentioned here) that there needs to be a central focus point for social cohesion. It's good to open the whole thing. Individual intros is nice if not too many people. A central hall is good for major presentations, eg concerning some specific technology rather than just demoing kit which has disadvantages as mentioned in previous post.

Of course, if there are any really big systems to demo, they might be given time slots in a central hall.

Nice to see you back Bala. We missed you during our last two meets. Hope you can make it this time around.

Been away from most activities for quite some time. Hence had to miss out :) Am not sure about attending this one. But I will definitely try - that is for sure!

You are at the right time here when we are speaking of an conducting an audio meet. Your participation will make us stronger.

Hope everything is alright on your end. Can we meet someday in-between ?

Pleasure is always mine! Sure we can. If we can call and fix up a time, no reason why not.

Hello stranger! ASL pls! :p

Hi grubyhalo! Hope you are doing fine. Wish I knew what ASL means :)

thevortex...

Bringing that Behringer box with you, if you still have it?

Or perhaps I could resume that conversation that I faded out of, a couple of years ago, about coming to visit it.

Oh... and you of course!

Well, Thad - we can always catch up on our conversation! I still do have it. And if I do make it to the meet, I might bring it along :)

Yes, this would be another major advantage.

The pros and cons of having one room for one setup are: -

1. Optimum speaker placement and listening position.

2. Possibility of more critical auditioning due to smaller number of listeners.

3. Group being smaller, software favoured by the listeners can be played.

4. The system can be played and displayed right from morning to the evening. This would be much more appealing to the dealers.

5. Since gears are spread out, more focussed auditioning can take place of gear that appeals to someone.

Cons

1. The format would be more expensive to organise.

2. Since this would involve more expenditure, the forum members wanting to display their gear would be lesser.

3. The meet would be possible only if sponsors would chip in with the moolah.

4. The rooms would have sub optimal room treatment. This would also be applicable to a single hall but since a large number of people would be present, room reflections would be not as much as single rooms.

Actually, we can have two set ups in one room, one on either side. What say guys?

Wish I knew what ASL means

That's chat lingo querying one's Age, Sex & Location.

2. Since this would involve more expenditure, the forum members wanting to display their gear would be lesser.
Everybody wants to share, otherwise they would not be forum members. Many of our forum members are more than happy to show off their sounds to others in their homes. My doubt is that many would pay for a room in which to do so.

For commercial sponsors, there is commercial advantage. For others, there is only cost --- unless they are looking to sell components, of course.

Thad.. Yes you are right.

Please be assured that the charges for participants will be very less like usual meet held in Mumbai / Delhi.
