Just for info:

My son picked up a SB Duet last weekend- preowned but new in box off SF Craiglist for $170. These are available from people who want to sell, and it's a real shame that Logitech killed this!

I like my SBT. I bought it, just a month before the news of Logitech going to kill SBT start to spread. Could get it at a decent price from amazon.com. This is one of my serious purchase.

I bought my first one( the SB Classic) nearly 6 years ago, and though the first one has died, I have two of them-a Touch and a Duet. They are both in daily use and I love them!!

It is astonishing that these pieces of consumer-price-range kit are becoming investment pieces in the hifi world! And sadly ridiculous that, in the face of that, Logitech will not shift and support the range, or at least sell it off to a company that would nurture it.

From stuff I remember from the SQ forum, apart from not being interested in a niche product (so why did they buy Slim Devices?), the main cause of the hostility among very senior executives was their inability to spell operating systems that don't start with a W, and downright hostility towards those that start with an L.

... a duet owner.

I went through the thread in some detail, basically it needs a fair amount of diy stuff to be done-enclosure, connectors, power supply and I think, remote to be sourced and integrated, and there is no display. Is this a deal breaker? I may not want to do all of it since I can probably get a decent preowned unit for around the same cost off craigslist in the US, and for me having a display is essential. But as a fun project, it might be worth spending some time-but at $60 to the US$ it's not going to be as affordable as, say, 3-4 years ago.

Having said that, I can only admire the ingenuity of the people involved in making this happen. Hats off to them!

Nama, please see the link that Thad provided, it has details of where to order, though you should go through their FAQ to better understand what is involved.

It's not going to be like a ready-made sq-box, especially one with a display like the Touch. My box does not have a display --- and I find the separate Duet control rather clunky to use, even though I liked it out of the box. I find that an Android app does the job better.

Even I haven't studied it yet! :o Although I did read about the Squeezeplug/pi solution a while back. My thought was that pi+wifi+ODAC would make an easy Squeezebox replacement.

There are a lot more miniature PCs now. I see something on that site called a Wandboard. I wonder which is best for this task? I might have the answer after reading that FAQ page :)

EDIT: ps... Wandboard in India

But is Squeeze box really dying in sometime.. ? Will Logitech stop supporting "Mysqeezebox.com in near future ?

I don't really care if MySqueezebox closes down. We'll still be able to stream from our own servers, and I think we'll still be able to play streaming URLs from the net.

The worry is when the hardware dies --- and nothing lives for ever.

On a bit more reading, by the way, it looks like the Wandboard solution will be the way to go.
