Hi folks
Back to the suggestion table here
Was looking to add to my Home Theatre setup
A Media Player
With the plethora of choices, confusion has clouded my judgement and now with less time from work, cant go around looking at all choices I have

Here is my wish list (not necessarily in the same order ) :
1. User Friendly Interface
2. 2-3 TB Capable
3. Wi-fi capable
4. Full HD for sure
5. Not too bulky
6. Top Notch brand and some service back ups in Mumbai

If the budget is in the 30-35 k range, what options do I have and
for 20-25k, what do i get ?

Appreciate feedback from you guru's out here
Regards
Ram

Since you have no limit on budget. Why not look at a dune HD MAX ? Media player with region free bluray unit.

If you are just looking for a media player with that budget , how about building a HTPC or simply wait for a product like xtreamer prodigy .

Just my 2 bits.
:)

the wd tv live hub retails for 11.5k which is sleek and good looking with 1.4 hdmi port and 1 tb internal hdd. But support for 2tb hdd is on the way with proper firmware, since the latest firmwares suck a lot. So you will have to wait for a good firmware. Except this, the unit is very promising...

@kaptan - the hd version is no longer available. Only the live and the live hub are available now.

I have a WD TV live, and a NAS with 6 TB of storage. It works great.

However, if you want something better, the logical next step is a HTPC.

For example :

1. Dell Zino HD
Inspiron Zino HD Desktop | Dell India

2. Acer Revo
Amazon.com: Acer AspireRevo AR3700-U3002 Slim and Compact Desktop - Blue: Computer & Accessories

3. Zotac Zbox
ZOTAC ZBOX MINI COMPUTER DESKTOP PC ATOM DUAL CORE HDMI | eBay

4. Mac mini
The Apple Store (India) - Mac mini

These are full fledged PCs, with :
- very compact design, so that it fits in your TV cabinet
- low power consumption, fanless design
- HDMI output
- sufficient processing power to handle 1080p
- ability to connect to a network / NAS / internet
- no limitation on amout of storage you connect

Steps to a dream setup :
- Buy one of these
- Load XBMC XBMC
- Hookup to your TV / home theatre system

And you have a media player that is far more capable than anything on the market.

Recommend a WD TV Live with atleast a 1 TB drive connected to it.
If you are gonna listen to the music via an AVR - suggest an optical out from the WD TV Live out - phenomenal difference in sound !

For your WiFi connectivity - you will get a USB Dongle (go for the WD approved ones)

I have exactly what I am recommending to you and I thoroughly enjoy it !

All the best.

Based on the reviews on the market as well on the web i find one of the best media player which can handle 30gig blue ray rips' at ease is Divco Tvix, i Just bought one yet to test it with such huge files...though smaller files should work on any media player as such...

here's a review of it DViCO TViX S1
it also has a comparision of many media players in the market..

this one costs in india at about 19K INR with 1 year warranty, i bought in US though at much cheaper price.

specs are at HOME > Products > TVIX HD SLIMS1

I am using Dune HD Max for past few months and the results are excellent
Never had any problems like video stuttering even with Bluray rips of 45 gigs and no audio issues for DTS HD MA. Highly recommended. And the Bluray player is region free :)

PopcornHour is a good product, and it can eaisly handle a 2TB internal. The 3 TBs have just started trickling into the market, dont know about compatibility issues

The Marantz PM7000N offers big, spacious and insightful sound, class-leading clarity and a solid streaming platform in a award winning package.
