Taga - TAV 606 V3 - 5.0 Speaker System

Hi, for every 3 db increase in sound pressure level SPL twice the amount of power is reqd. So theoretically SE should use 20-30? lower power to produce the same SPL. Don't go by the no of drivers of each speaker. That doesn't matter, even a small bookshelf e.g diamond 9.0 is much harder to drive than the above two big floorstanders. For instance I used to drive my magnat supreme 1000s with a topping amp for years getting decent SPL. Even that was 91 db.

Coming to matching of the watts, yes it's beneficial if the amp has higher power output than the speakers can handle since distortion sets late and hence no damage to speakers. But to get a stable 150 watt power AVR you need to spend a lac or above. So my advise is don't bother about these watts and power etc. All you need is around 30/40 watts of continuous power and a spike of 70-80 to handle sudden explosions etc. You will never even use 100 watts anyway. So once again - check your AVR with the identified speaker set and listen. If you like then only buy, don't get into technicalities too much. It's like comparing different 100 cc bikes. All can do 90% of the jobs well. It's the way they deliver that matters and the brand of course. Your AVR is powerful enough in my opinion for first time users. Hope this helps

So in this case for Taga TAV606 SE which AVR is preferable.

It depends on what you like but around 100 watt rated at 8 ohm should be ok I think. What do you have in mind btw

I already purchased it SE with Denon X520Bt...doing all well..only need to keep volume minimum 50+ while movie watching..

This is for FM mode and USB mode
i did each speaker..
Settings> Manual Setup>Levels> +12db for all speaker while listening music only...and for this change, volume level 30 also work good.

Not did for cable/sat mode -when optical is connected...in this case by default levels are +1.5db. for which need to keep volume level +50.

@ mnz, do you feel that 520BT is underpowered at any point while watching movies? If yes what was the reason?

Truly speaking , I am not feel that 520 will underpower...it's just cause of movie...low sound Hollywood movie...

With AVR you will definitely miss the punch with Floor standers for songs, Moreover AVRs meant for movies not for Music. If you still want to use the FS with AVRs as some people said you have to crank the volume almost 75% to get the basic punch. But with this way you have to keep your AVR cool ever. Coming to increasing speaker levels, you will end up getting loudness along with distortion in medium volume.

So depends on your taste, if you are more into music buy a stereo amp with bookshelf / Floor standers or if you are into movies then AVR with bookshelf speaker package is more than enough.

Hi mnz it's not advisable to increase each channel loudness to compensate for volume. Never do that, channel correction in meant to work only when there is an imbalance due to speakers or distance etc. You are increasing the distortion levels. Keep them in flat mode and use the auto setup to allow the AVR to correct the settings. You can at best fine-tune to 10/20? levels.

A lot depends on how loud you want and the signal strength also. If you are cranking the volumes for DTS signals I mean for HD signals also then it's concern particularly if you have to go more than 70%. Anything less is fine. I have a beast of an AVR - onkyo 875 which is rated at continuous 140 watts. But still I need to go up to 50% for SD and 40% for HD of the volume levels. Of course I use less efficient speakers than yours.

Sorry friends i had some eye problem thatswhy i couldn't. reply. The guy came and installed two days later. My AVR is Onkyo 737.Burned with 3 hrs of music as per his instructions with his initial settings. Music performance i will give only 5/10 marks(this is my personal opinion. also my audio source was not good just mp3 files played through usb). Then ran Audyssy caliberation. Started watching Titanic, Avatar and then airtel Hd channels. Very nice experience but was not satisfied. Started manual settings and at some point i had to say WOW. Really a deep punchy bass(no subwoofer) from towers, clear dialogues from center and nice satisfying surround effects. Especially Star movies i dont even need more than 40percent volume(so far max 60 percent volume). Nice , enjoying more number of movies now with good theater effect. and i have got 100 percent for what i have paid for. Thanks once again to all my friends.

4 years am trying to buy HT for myself..budget crossed 1.5lak ..so simply waited these long years ..dream was ONKYO 727 WITH Energy cf-30 set..
heard it in mylapore demo place and impression was high at tat time..some suggested not to go for onkyo now..
never heard abt grey market either..just got some help and took a decision to buy this set..wat ever lets c..atlast its fit in my budget..so try.

AVR -PIONEER VSX1131
speakers- Taga harmony tav-606 ( not a SE) 5.0 setup

Two Front tower/center/rear 2book shelf

got the avr for 40k in parrys..and speakers for 25k..its grey market purchase ..got a contact by our forum members..
hope trust worthy till last..(i haven't bought woofer coz its not needed now for me )

Both sets came in proper box with covers..speakers are bit heavy to carry/AVR Also..mainly towers..and for towers they giving 8 brass bushes.

installation took half day nearly..guy came and did from tat shop..neat work i can say.
but not clearly told abt settings and all..he just did and went..

i know how to google..so not at all a issue..

so exited to hear the sound..once it hooked he played some video HD songs..I was like holy CRAP..poor set and speakers..

really cursed all who told me to try this set from our forum..Installation guy told this is it...all working fine and went..no calibration
and all..he said calibration and manual all r same..am bit upset and don want to waste time anymore..so let him free and all over..

googled abt FULL AUTO MCACC calibration and started trying by myself with my camera tripod in my hall sweet spot..

sounds from all speakers came low to high..and so highhhh...did at night time so bit annoying to wake my family..ended in two min
i guess..( did with pin drop silent..no fan nothing in hall..all doors closed an windows either..recommended by you tube )

FINISHED.......NOW

really don have mind to play anything ..if no improvement means i will cry for sure..what else i have as a choice? so played..

played Dolby demo Blu ray disc in my Sony player......Result..

I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THE SOUND...JUMPING ALL OVER IN HALL...THIS IS WHAT I EXPECTED FOR MY HOME..

70% same like my old demo audio quality..sine its properly closed by acoustic panel setup there and i don hav tat in my home / open doors and windows opened
never minded..let it b..its a home man!

AUDIO:

MP3 quality not working well with avr and speakers ..but FLAC files/original audio cd playing like hell..sound was so smooth and hearing almost instruments clearly
Front tower speakers sounding outstanding for songs as well as movies.

Instruments ....no words to say how this speaker sounds..don want anymore quality for my self..its good enough..never heard like this before
specially when sounds like kadam/ flute/ veena/ electric guitar/strings/ am feeling like really someone playing it my hall lively..so live

Thee thee- Thiruda thiruda
sangamam- sowkiyamma kanna song

tankers launching missiles moment front towers throwing bass at nice level and sound going all over the speakers..rears r too good for this kind of sounds..war and rain
drops makes me so so happy..

dark night /avengers/war horse/saving private Ryan/battleship/iron man/Sherlock Holmes/ lot more to say..all sounds awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Tamil bluray movie sounds so crisp and dynamic

I will keep Sound level in avr is mostly half the level oly..-30db is my desire..(its start from -80 to +13)never crossed more than -19db..home vibrating a lot..with -19db am hearing
nice nd punchy sound of music/movie..

These speakers are worth every single money..don imagine too much for floor stands..i have auditioned Polk, energy, sonodyne, and few more..this TAGA HARMONY is a decent
one for what u paying...lovely choice for myself(again its my satisfaction)

any more technical details needed i will study and update u friends..hav works( Thanks to all who helped me to buy this and gave me little knowledge)
