Tata sky hd

Just wondering..... Tata Sky HD is launched initially only in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai according to their website. But if I can get hold of the HD STB, will it work anywhere in India? or will it work only in the cities where it has been launched??

There is no special cabling that is done or needed.
They just hook it up to the cable from the dish call the back end office for activation of channels for HD channels CC needs to be called for activation.

Got my HD STB yesterday. STB activated around 9 PM and HD pack activated by 9.45 PM. Called up TS CC and blasted dem off:D , result of that HD gold pack activated immediately. NAT GEO and DISCOVERY HD are good, not great!! though some shows looked good. But ESPN HD rocks. saw Germany vs Spain Match yesterday, and almost stunned by pic quality:clapping:.Any idea guys that when we will be getting more HD channels and anyone knows which are they? I an dying to see Ashes in HD, Hope they provide STAR CRICKET in HD.

I placed an order for Tatasky HD STBon 2nd July 2010 through CC. I am still waiting for the delivery and its almost a week. Everyday they say its not available....then why did they took the order????

Can anyone let me know whether its already available in Kolkata or not?

Star movies is supposed to become available soon. I wonder if that will be a separate channel like NGC, or if it'll carry the same content as the SD channel (i.e. crappy outdated movies played a million times)

At Last got TATA Skay HD in jaipur yesterday :yahoo: One of the first in my loaction :clapping: .But they activated my HD Gold pack after 20 hours.THough i blasted off CC but they didnt activate my hd gold missed yesterdys match..My advice is not to watch HD channels :p other wise you will find ur SD channels Dull and Boring :p. Awesome-st quality. Thanks for HIFI guys for letting me know about tata sky hd.The quality of SD channels has been improved significantly in comparison to airtel digital. I m Forced to purchased a home theatre to experience even better sound quality.

Tomorrow it will be 1 week since I ordered the HD STB and I am still waiting....Hope I will get it before 2014 World cup..........:(

ok here is my feedback. due to locational constraints i chose ts hd. looked around and tried to buy one on friday but cc said 7 days time. I wanted the same asap (due to fifa matches) so contacted a dealer who said that box can be booked and will be delivered on monday. shopped around for airtel hd but no success eventually booked the box through dealer on saturday. Got the box on monday. installation however happened on wednesday (tried to get it done on tuesday but no success) as scheduled. Immidiate activitaion of the hd pack by the service engineer so i could watch yesterday's semi final. pq of espn hd is extraordinary (looked almost like a ps 3 game) content wise discovery and ng are so so. do not have a home theater so cannot comment on the sound aspect. sd channels are more or less of the same quality as earlier.

Got it working today. The HD channels - Nat Geo and Discovery look strictly ok, nothing great. The SD channels look like crap compared to my incable STB fed via composite. The latter is way way sharper. Not sure if this is worth the money. Gotta check ESPN HD.

got the tata sky hd box last saturday and activated last sunday
No Optical out in the box
the HD is not great. I was expecting quality that u see in the demo of at the LCD TV showrooms

It comes with south value pack free for 2 months, This barely has any channels. Just called the guys to get it upgraded from south value to south saver and expected them to upgrade to a pro-rata basis and pay just the extra bit but to my shock, they said NO. If i change my package, i need to forego my free package and pay the entire monthly rental for the new package which i thought was not fair. so if u by the tata sky HD in south india, you need to be stuck with a crappy package for 2 months , unless, u are ready to shell out more money for a new package

What they play in the showrooms is blue ray content, where one movie is 45 gb in size, you can't compare the same. Once you watch the world cup match in HD you would probably be able to make out the difference.

A lot will also depend what TV you as using and how is the calibration done.
In showrooms they set everything on Dynamic mode, while at homes you will never use the Dynamic mode for watching , it will always be cinema mode.

you can not expect blue ray quality on HD DTH..

calibration is key... I went to my friends place yesterday.. he has 40 inch lcd and just acquired TS HD.. had horrible settings for that HDMI input so he was complaining- why SunHD at my place looked better? is TS HD bad?.. I simply calibrated his LCD and he was amazed by improved picture quality..

+1.

One thing to note is that some (most?) TVs have calibration per input. So, the older calibration (on composite input) will not work. You have to calibrate the HDMI or component input that you are using for better picture.

I concur; the TS settings were awful. Way too saturated, I needed to turn the settings down. Which reminds me, I downloaded some free calibration sheets, need to check them out over the weekend. What method do you recommend for calibration?

got the connection, installation was swift and to my utter surprise hd channels were activated as soon as the software got downloaded. Waiting for the fifa match to check espn hd, interface was refreshing.

P.S. Owing to tata sky stb unavailability I was planning to get sun directhd and changed my mind after reading sanjay rants on their service here which turned out to be blessing in disguise.
