The Objective DAC is Here!

The macro dynamics and the depth of field of the music was better in the AP DAC. Also, to my ears, the LF content from the ODAC was on the lighter side in comparison. This is not exactly surprising because of the elaborate power supplies available in the AP DAC with one transformer for each section when compared to the power to the entire circuit of the ODAC coming through the USB cord.

Of course as Thad rightly put it, approximation sought to be achieved by using the volume control may not be the right way to make a head to head comparison. May be we should do the level matching accurately using a decibel meter sometime. What say Thad?:)

Thanks captrajesh and thad for this session and review :) AP DAC -- is there a link to the product? Pardon my knowledge :)

Maxprojcrj has a Parasound zDAC (costing 30K) that we plan to demo with ODAC in A/B at my home some time in future but before that this audition experience that you have posted definitely boosts the ODAC owners. But please do send me a link of your AP dac, not sure if anyone in my city has that

Sorry for the late response; I was touring. The AP DAC is not their regular DAC which costs 88K but a one off piece made by the designer Mr. Siva to compare several chips available in the market before narrowing down on his own choice. I'm, afraid you won't find any other DAC of similar specs.

i had ordered directly from JDS Labs - the plain board version, and paid through credit card. Arrived within 10 days. Got couple of RCA jacks and fitted it in an Altoids tin :P.

Some images of my ODAC:

Congrats looks nice but I do not see any hole for the USB port which side is it and how are you connecting the same.

I think only one model in ODAC,that is this one only.
You have one choice: you can have with, or without RCA connectors.

Oh, second choice: black or silver!

can you pls suggest how to buy? can JDSLABS deliver to india or some one has to buy form US?

I suggest that you buy direct from JDS Labs site rather than through Amazon.

I got mine by ordinary post (highest risk, but other options cost a lot more) and it took 16 days door to door. They will despatch within hours of your online order. I paid by car. I think I posted timing and cost breakdown above.

we need to select the dispatch method like ordinary post or courier?

Yes, you do --- and the courier options all add a lot to the price. Post is relatively cheap, but you can't track it once it leaves USA, which will be within a day or two. I think insurance was an option. Would be good, especially for post.

It is very small, and arrives in a small box inside an envelope.

The general consensus is that the ODAC is transparent - i.e. the sound depends upon upstream and downstream components - the source file (recording quality of mp3/flac), media software used and its settings, amplifier, speakers etc. ODAC by itself does not add/delete to the music.

There are comparisons posted in this thread/elsewhere in HFV where members have compared it to various other DACs, and it has not disappointed, to say the least. :)

Buy from India's official online dealer!
