ODAC query

i recently received 3 ODac chips as a friend carried them from US.

my query is we discuss a lot about cables.

now while i go ahead and solder the wires to gold plates RCA connectors and then connect our highly praised uber expensive IC's to get that good resolving sound... dosen't the small thin cable running between the RCA and the chip affect the sound ?

most of the chips i have seen are soldered with very thin few strand wires soldered to board and to RCA plugs.

please enlighten. i will be getting them soldered today or max tomorrow hence the query..

I had the same query when I received my ODAC board thru my friend from US. But as suggested by the FM's here I have used the single strands of the ethernet cable to solder it. One of the reasons they quoted also you can google the same that the ethernet cables are normally well built with nice quality copper but i am not sure how true that is, but one thing which I concur is that the ODAC board is so tiny that using a thicker guage cables other than the ethernet single strand ones will be bulky and might overlap on the other sockets. This is what my opinion is and I am super happy using the ethernet single strand cables for the RCA soldering.

May be other knowledgeable FM's will chip in with there comments.

thnaks for clarifying the doubt. now another query comes to my head. please dont bash me for this one.

if a single strand can work without quality loss why do we need IC's worth thousand for .5/.8 metre to connect to amp ?

though i also use the same expensive IC's.. but still a query

I am not sure about that but may be I can guess that being the shorter distance and also in an enclosed case rather than exposing to the outside conditions which is the case with the IC's .

I can guess that being the shorter distance

I think you hit bulls eye .... shorter the distance lesser the resistance and capacitance hence less loss

i am using MX interconnects since long time, and iam happy with them, untill i find something which will change my Mind

My ODAC started having intermittent static noise on one of the channels after 1 year of use. I pinpointed the issue to be with ODAC after eliminating other probables (PC, amp, cord, case). I mailed to JDS Labs for a solution and they promptly offered to replace the board.

I sent back the bad board and JDS shipped a new one same day of receiving it. Now that's what I call a good customer service.

if you receive the board.. you must go to some temple....

as i mentioned earlier.. i received 3 chips out of which one was bad. JDS Labs was exceptionally good at customer service and withing 3 hours they shipped a replacement on dec 30th 2013..

while i sent the faulty dac with a friend who hand carried it to USA and then shipped it over to them.. .

guess whatttttt... been 3 months and till date the Great Almighty Indian POst Office have not delivered my Odac yet..

i emailed JDS labs for the same and they sent another replacement to a friend in US who hand carried it for me on 1st april..

all in all.. JDS Labs are amazing at CC and i received the chip ... but indian post office sucks..

Yes, JDS are great. I'm happy to say that the post was ok for me, and so was my ODAC. Hope it doesn't fail after a year, but good to know that it may not be a throw-away if that did happen :)

I think mine is close to 2 years now and it still works flawlessly, so may be the FM had a one off instance of failure.

Good customer service indeed. Did they reveal the cause of the problem? It may help other users.

The cause mentioned in the diagnosis sheet was "ESD".

I guess I should thank my stars as the package was posted on 8th from US and I received it on 16th. Assembled it and it is playing fine (till now was subsisting on the on-board sound). BTW last year the package took 10 days to arrive.

The warranty is for 2 yrs as per JDS website.

Hi Thad,
my ODAC from jds labs has disconnected its USB connector .. Is anyone here who can connect it back ? Or do i have to send it back to JDS labs?

Regds

That's sad. I have no idea about the repair, but it might be safer to just contact JDS. Everyone speaks highly of their customer service.

Or better you can find a refrigerator/washing machine repair guys as they definitely stock the silver solder but most of the TV repair guys in my area does not have these and instead use some other soldering wire.

I got it soldered . System recognises the odac however there is no sound ??

Could this be due to DC power being supplied ?The AC - AC adapter blew off .. Is there somewhere i can repair this ?

Probably the best will be to ship it back to JDS and ask for a replacement if nothing works out.
