I have an Innova Model V which comes with a decent audio system. Basic spec just mentions "2 Din AM/FM CST 1-CD (with MP3) with 6 speakers". Have been happy with the sound while driving or front seat but audio in the rear seats is poor to day the least.

Would like to know who is the OEM supplier to Toyota for the audio system and what are the options available to beef up the sound in the rear seats. The only speakers in the rear are in the door and they hardly carry any punch.

Nikhil,
Some time back I needed to upgrade my innova audio system too. I checked with the dealer and they told me the HU is panasonic made. I have heard some people say some innova comes with alpine HU. But mine was defenitely panasonic.

My Innova was bought two years ago. Will have to check. Care to share what you upgraded to? Thanks!

Hey! Nikhil it doesn't matter what ever your OE HU is. Since it is a flush mounted HU it is unlikely to have a pre out, thus you'll have to get a 4CH amp with spk line level input . You must also change all your spks to get some body in sound.
All the best.
Cheers.

Thanks. Any recommendations on what kind of amp I could use?

It Would help if you can give me a budget.
If you add an amp you'll def have to change your spks.
But if you are looking at only decent entry level stuff then IMO the kenwood 8401 is the best VFM available at 7-9K in grey, for spk you can go for components in the front & Coaxials in the rear.
For spk pl do not just look for the big fac brands like sony, blau, alpine jbl etc as there are better options available in the same price bracket from smaller but specialist manu. If would like some recco on spk as well you??ll have to give me options available with your local installers.
All the best.
Cheers.

Nikhil,
I wanted to upgrade it. Spent a lot of time researching. But since I didnt wanted to change the HU, I couldnt find a viable way to upgrade. I sold the innova after a couple of months without doing any upgrade.

neo, thanks for the info. I've been an Infinity fan when it comes to car speakers. After looking at your recommendation, I've been thinking of their Bass Link T to add some beef to the sound in the back. As I said the fronts are not too bad for the moment.

The Bass Link T comes with an amp that accepts both speaker and line level inputs. They are also designed to be "low profile" which is ideal for trucks, SUVs. Would like to know if anyone has had a closer look at these puppies?

   ... thanks for the earlier info.

Hey! Nikhil you can def upgrade your sound to certain extent even with your existing HU so do not end up selling your car:D

If you like infinity so be it.It is Jbl's big brother, belongs to the same group & so it fall in Big fac range. I feel there is better value arnd.

I've checked the woofer link. With your existing set up I feel it would be an overkill. Since the bass would end up overpowering the rest of the frequencies. You should go for it if you change the rest of the set up i.e the spk's & amp.

I advice that adding an amp & changing your spk should be your first step as if done right you'll def get very decent sound & bass as well.
All the best.
Cheers.

Thanks again neo. Based on feedback on another thread I am favouring something like what was recommended:
Get component speakers upfront run the rears of the head unit.
Get a 4 channel amplifier use the two channels for the component speakers, maybe bridge two channels to power a sub woofer (if two choose compatible sub woofer looking at the impedance ratings)

Seems like you have some other brands in mind for speakers. Do you have any suggestions for amp and component speakers?

Yes!The rear spk will act as a filler only if you go for this kinda set up. But if done right the set up will work . IMO having good front components will even it out.

Yes i do have my fav's but i would not like to imply you to them at the moment, also i'm not sure if they will be available in Hyd.
I feel you should first search for a good installer & check what brands you like & may be with some help from the forum members you can decide on what you want.
Also do you have a budget in mind?
All the best.
Cheers.

Try me. I have my favourites but its for opinions of folks like you that I started this thread. I haven't really set a budget yet as I'd like to see whats available out there. Not too crazy though ... will have to keep things in control to some extent!

I travel all over the place so location of dealer is a non issue for me. I visit Mumbai often anyways ...

There is whole gamut of brands out there but can only coment on the few that i've heard.
My fav for spk is Dynaudio, Image Dynamics, Rainbow, Illusion Audio,Hertz,DlS,Focal etc

For Amp's Tru Tech, Genesis, Audision,Ample audio, steg etc

I suggest you find a good installer b4 you decide to buy anything. As installation of ICE is very imp.
All the best.

Hey! Ckd with a friend. There seems to be shop named Sprocket in Hydra which deals in Illusion audio, Steg etc. The owners name is Anoop his Contact Nos +919989890022. Although can not comment on his installation, so pl check for your self.
All the best.
Cheers.

Thanks again will have to look them up. We have a few decent installers here but most are not really high end audio.

For ID ie Image Dynamic's,Tru tech, rainbow, bull audio, genesis etc

You'll have to get in touch with Asif (9886323371)of EB Bass in Banglore
or Pankaj Chedda(9821012333) of Fm Drive in Bombay.
Not sure of it's availablity in Hyderabad.
All the best.
Cheers.
