TS+HD - New SOFTWARE downloaded last night

Still not much clue, only thing I noticed was better deinterlacing at 720p (Dish HD is still superior in this regards but I hope it may improve further with future upgrades).

well tried all the steps mentioned and it didnt work. It used to come to the "Software downloading do not disconnect the STB 0%" , it would stay there for few seconds and come out. :( . Then i called up customer care and asked them about this update. They said this update would be pushed to the customers "batch wise". So not sure when this will come to my STB :(

Hi Guys
My SW Version is 1.0.2.001 Feb 07 2011

I tried to manually download it but it does not work.

Any ideas guys

Thanks
I hope you connected through AVI cable as the display is 576i through HDMI which is not supported by most of the HDTVs.

I haven't found any major improvement other then slightly improved deinterlacing in 720p output.

Well if anyone wanna download the software manually can try dis:

When ur stb is on, close it from the mains without switching off from remote.
After some time switch on stb from mains and when 'please wait initializing' comes on screen, press back button twice and then press 2465. Software will start downloading.
I am not sure if this update was mean't for the 'TS HD' or only for 'TS HD+', but I in any case used this procedure successfully to manually force the software update.

After the update, the following are my observations:

1. The banner now shows 'Tata Sky +' instead of 'Tata Sky'. (This Leads me to think that this software was mean't for 'TS HD+' only. But then again it may mean nothing at all).

The good:

1. The layout, design etc are much better and professional looking. I specially like that while the menu is up, it no longer covers up the whole screen with the picture in a small window as it did previously.

2. The Genres list is severly shortened by clubbing all the regional channels under 'Regional. This is great since the list otherwise was way too long.

3. HD has been added as a 'Genre' to enable sorting for HD channels. This will ofcourse become less useful as more and more HD channels are added. But for now it is quite useful.

The bad:

1. The three channels that I had saved previously as 'Favorites' now are listed as channel #s 9xx. Instead of simply putting the selected channel #s in the memory of 'favorites' they are assigning duplicate channel numbers. Seems like more than just silly to maintain the 'favorites' this way.

2. I can no longer use the 'favorites' button to toggle through the channels saved as 'favorites'.

3. There is no one button that brings up the option to sort on 'Genres'. You have to first bring up the banner and then click the green button to bring this option up.

4. They have all english & hindi entertainment channels clubbed together as 'Entertainment' and the same thing for 'Movies'.

5. Worse yet, they have all news & information (infotainment would have been more appropriate) channels clubbed as 'News & Knowledge'.

6. The 'Genres' list does not wrap around. One has to skip all the way up or down to get back to a category instead of simply wrapping to the first genre after you reach the last one.

7. If one enters a number which does not have a channel, instead of going to the closest channel number an error message that the channel does not exist is displayed. This very inconvenient. On other DTH company set-top boxes a quick way to get atleast close to a channel that you don't remmeber the exact number for, but do know the approximate number. For example if I do not remember the channel # for Discovery which is # 557, but I do remember that it is around #550, I could simply select # 550 and press select and it should take me to the closes t existing channel, ie. # 551 Nat Geo. But instead it situpidly just gives an error message that channel # 550 does not exist. Talk about dumb.

8. The software is quite sluggish and even changing the channels takes too long.

9. The set-top box still does not remember the last channel being viewed and still starts up with channel # 100. TRAI needs to stop this nonsense. This is specially bad in a country where electricity failure is the norm rather than the exception.

Not sure how you got TS+HD firmware installed on TS HD. I see it rather dumb if the loader BLINDLY download ANY available software! Seems you would need to go back to your older firmware somehow.

Talking on the last 2 points:

7. I miss this feature of arbitration of channel number. Yes its very dumb, how would TS expect us to remember channel numbers? Dish TV has ALWAYS allowed such arbitration and I didn't even bother thinking how useful it is!

8. On my TS+HD, it starts with the last visited channel or the one it has switched to record from (if I bring it from standby).

It is quite possible that the downloaded software is mean't for TataSky HD, everything does seem to be working fine. Except ofcourse for no longer being able to toggle through the channels saved as 'favorites' by repeatedly clicking the 'favorites' button. Which may be by design, or simply just a bug in the software. Either way, I don't think there is a way to go back to the older firmware. Not that I feel there is any need to do it anyhow.

I too have found this to be very helpful and I use it all the time, infact this is something that works on all the other services that I have, ie. SunDirect HD, Dish FraudHD, Dish TV and Airtel IPTV. TataSky HD is the only one with which this does not work. Quite stupid if you ask me.

Really? Wow, this is a first I am hearing of this, for any DTH set-top box in India. Just for clarification, are you saying that on your 'TataSky+ HD' set-top box, if you turn off the power with channel # 571 playing and then when you turn the set-top box back on, it remembers the channel # 571 and automatically starts playing it? Does this also happen if the power is turned off from the mains or in the case of a power failure? Assuming that this is the case that you are describing, I am now really bummed out with why the TataSky HD box does not behave this way.

The box goes back to channel 100 if the power supply is completely switched off, and then turned on. From standby, it will start with the last visited channel. That has always been the case with Tata Sky since the launch of their first box. I doubt that will change.

As you suggest, if the UI says TS+, it might have been for TS+HD. Talking of favorites - Dish HD has virtually unlimited favorite channels lists with about 7 different CUSTOMIZED NAMED categories.

Absolutely, I was always using that feature to switch to a category of channel or intentionally pressing 0 for all the old HD channels, 600 for Times Now, etc.

Not in the event of power loss (which never happens to me as I have ample redundant power supplies). After power loss, it goes back to channel 100 (unless STB has to change channels on both the tuners on a scheduled recording event).

Strangely enough, the TataSky HD set-top box I have has always started out with channel # 100 and this is the case from both 'standby' and 'mains power off'. Also, this problem, apparently it is a problem based on what you guys are stating, was there even before the software update and is still there after the software update.

PS: After the box starts up from 'standby' it starts with channel # 100, but then pressing the 'back' button takes me to the last viewed channel before putting the box in 'standby'.

Dude, that is the reason you need to connect through AVI cable!

It accepts the command through AV cable but not goes beyond 0%. :(

However, I updated my HD STB (not + ) with this command and now it is much better with one flaw of HD+ that it waits for the 4th digit to be pressed when we change channel. Looks Tata Sky is going to have channel numbers in 4 digits very soon.

Even my TS-HD+ STB starts from the same channel number if I switch it off/on from the remote. However after power off/on, it starts at Channel #100.

Ohh common sanjay is right. Even in all SD STB's infact all TS boxes start from Channel #100, we need to press the back button to go to the previous channel before putting the box in Standby mode.
