I came across this article which talks about using tv speakers as central channel. Sounds like an interesting temporary option, before one upgrades to 5.1 from 2. Thoughts?

I currently have a two speaker setup - Denon 1610 and Wharf 9.2 and LG80FR tv.

The TV should have an audio in, and as the article says, you have to use very low volumes. High volumes (more than 20 watts?) could blow your TV speakers.

Cheers

I have done it in past when I had only a local stereo amp & PC spk for surround.I used to keep vol moderate to prevent damage. But dedicated system sounds much better.

You can directly connect Center channel Audio-out of your DVD player to Audio-in of TV. Then you don't have to worry about blowing the TV speakers.
But obviously, it won't sound as good as dedicated center channel speaker.

You can directly connect Center channel Audio-out of your DVD player to Audio-in of TV.

That is a good idea, excepting for the point that I suspect there could arise a lip-sync issues. If the video goes through the AVR and the sound goes directly to the TV, there could a few millisecond time difference that may be visible/audible.

Cheers
