The Band - Stage Fright. Capitol, 1970. Japanese first press I believe. Wish I had the original wraparound poster with the picture by Norman Seeff from some of the other early issues.
Kanan Devi was the first female superstar who was a fantastic singer apart from being a nice thespian. That legacy was successfully carried further by Surraiyyaji and later by Sulaksana pandit who left us recently.
When Felix Pappalardi announced he was leaving Mountain, Leslie West and Corky Laing started exploring the possibility of a new band/venture. Pappalardi’s extensive production for Cream meant they all knew each other really well. And so, Jack Bruce joined hands with Laing and West, and in an era of short-lived supergroups one more was added to the roster. Why Dontcha was their first of two studio albums. Clearly the loose, loud, freewheeling Mountain sound with Bruce’s vocals - hard rock with more than a hint of blues - good clean fun!
West, Bruce & Laing - Why Dontcha. 1972, Columbia/Windfall, US
I've heard this album so many times and this is the first time I said to myself "That sounds like Shashi Kapoor's voice" in Raat Baaqi. I checked the sleeve and it was him.
The plastic sleeve is by our own incomparable Rikhav.
Road Food - the 12th album from The Guess Who, containing two of their most famous tracks - Clap for the Wolfman and Star Baby. Lovely, upbeat record from one of my favourite rock bands. 1974, RCA Victor, US
