Vinyl I am listening to...

Wishing all a very Happy Holi which is being celebrated today in many parts of our country. Kati Patang comes to mind with the iconic song “Aaj Na Chhodenge”, Kishore Kumar and Lata. Rajesh Khanna at his best. Note the mustard trousers which became quite a rage in it’s time.

Nothing like a little early Allman Brothers to dial up the afternoon. A double issue of their first two albums - self titled and Idlewild South. 1973, Japanese issue - a very sweet pressing indeed.

Now spinning Billy Joel’s then-underrated debut, Cold Spring Harbor. The album that gave us the iconic ‘She’s Got a Way’. Although it may not have been iconic then for a reason. The original was released by Artie Ripp on his label ‘Family Productions’ at a faster speed than intended due to a mastering error. It was finally re-edited and speed corrected and re-released as it was meant to be, 12 years later, in 1983 on Columbia (but by Ripp). This is the 1983 reissue.

Now spinning Billy Joel - 52nd Street. 1978, CBS-Sony, Japanese reissue with Grammy obi, as it won him two Grammies for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and also Album of the Year at the 22nd Annual Grammies.

Recall purchasing this LP, Indian Pressing , way back in 1979/80 for a then princely sum of ₹50/- or so. Some of the tracks were really well recorded. Thanks for the nostalgia RT3.
