Hello all!!!Plz try to provide me info on:

Which TV I should go for.....LCD or LED?

What are the factors I should look into any TV before buying it?

I am very keen to know about the technical terms and what they deals in a TV? Plz explain about the all technical terms such as contrast ratio and other functions etc. And which level of these details should present in the TV so that I may get the best viewing experience?

My present set up is just a tradition CRT + denon 1910 + 2 wharf 10.1 L/R only

kindly let me know about the price range of the suggest TVs

Thanks you all

The term LED TV is a lie , it does not exist, it was created by Samsung marketing dept to fool people.

Only LCD exists and LCD has two different back lighting:

1, CFL
2, LED

LED back lighting has two different ways of implementation:

1, EDGE lit
2, Local dimming

Local dimming can differ depending upon the number of LED's implemented and how much area it covers and what type of LED is being used.

Contrast is like the ability of the tv to show the lightest and darkest parts of a picture clearly , back lighting can help with this issue but , local dimming will have the best results when it comes to real time contrast.

The contrast ratio numbers you see on the manufacturers website are pointless so don't decide anything based on that.

What is the main purpose of your tv? gaming? movies? general DTH usage?

Whats your budget? what is your viewing distance?

The main purpose of my tv is for movies and general usage!

Actually i have not fixed any date to go for this option bt as TV will be my next purchase therefore i am looking for the essential information. By the way my budget may be around 50k (i would also appreciated if any member would tell me about any 0% interest EMI scheme for the same in New Delhi).

I am in a government provided accommodation so my viewing distance is approx 4 mtrs.

Hope these details will help you to gather some more info for me.

many thanx

Hi

LCD refers to front panel i.e. what we see. They donot have any light of their own and need to be lit up from behind so that we can view teh colours that the LCD panel is displaying. This backlighting could be a CFL (similar to the compact CFLs that we use in our houses) or LED. Accordingly the TV set can be called a simple LCD or a LED-LCD.

The LED-LCDs are further of the type that have lighting only at edges (cheaper models) or throughout the back-panel (expensive models).
when there is a dark scene, the LEDs responsible for that portion of teh screen can also be dimmed. Obviously if there are full-panel LEDs, then we can have precise local dimming as compared to edge panel LEDs where dimming can only take place for bigger zones.
The full-panel LEDs will be therefore have more vivid contrast and deeper blacks.

More important features to consider are resolution, Refresh rate, response time, reproduction of blacks and greys and viewing angles and what use you want to put the television to.
You might try to search for some of these terms online and see what exactly do they mean.

Edit: You coudl try to get a 42inch conventional LCD TV. Make sure its full HD.
Hope this helps,
Maddy
