Watch out for the VIOLET speaker unit!!!!!!!!!

Tried a few times to download the white paper it is not opening. Can you repost it or something.

Able to download successfully. Do try from any other location, probable some network issues which disallows you to download!! If you are still not able to try from this http://www.violet3d.com/

Wonderful aesthetics. Would like to have a demo sometime.
So AVR is not necessary?!!!

At the onset, let me say its a great concept and I really like the looks of it.

But I think there may be a few practical problems in implementing the same

1. The people who would want to go for a system like this would probably be a general buyer who is high on aesthetics. One typically may not have planned for five light bulb sockets in one room (which are unused). Doing civil work for this system or extending wires might cause the aesthetics to suffer.

Are they not providing those "detachable stands" for this bulb folder as specified in the site?

Got an audition for the Violet speaker unit at Lakozy New Delhi.

Manufactured by a Bangalore based company ... new venture. People behind it are ex Harmon Kardon, USA.

Now, the details, in layman's language:

1. It is a 5.1 system, which makes NO USE of an AVR. Direct connection with a DVD.

2. The speakers are WIRELESS. No wire connections for receiving the signals. The speakers look like light bulb assembly. Can easily fit into any light bulb power supply direct ... for the input 220V supply.

3. The speakers can be put ANYWHERE inside the room. No need to make sure of any accurate positioning.

4. Each speaker is provided with a 2" driver, has a 40 W D class amp (something that was'nt revealed on asking. Me thinks it is a 2040 / 2050 chip per speaker which is being fed by a step down SMPS ... quite similar in operation to the Topping TP20 2020 chip).

5. Very good sound output, both for movies as well as music. The supplied wireless sub-woofer does a 'good' job for the low down outputs.

6. The wireless 'thing' requires an initial calibration for a one time setting per room for a fixed speaker positioning. This exercise takes upto 3 minutes. Once done, then that set up is ready for action.

7. The 5 satellite speakers have a range from 160 hz to 22 khz, while the current sub-woofer goes down to 45 hz.

8. The cost indicated is @ 65 k all inclusive.

Others present during the audition were ... Kamalji, G Venu, Amit Noida, Tapan Das.

Maybe, they would add to what I have jotted down.

My feedback: Quite impressive

What about the spec's of these speakers when compared to other speakers? (THD, Sensitivity et al)

Well I had tried a few times from different locations with different computers too. Let me change the browser and try again. I had a demo of these units. You should really hear these.

They are providing the detachable stands and/or wall brackets too. Yes an AVR is not necessary. Meant for folks who want some good sound in a normal living room without clutter free wiring. Another plus is that the sound system can be fitted in any room very easily with the supplied stands too.

I must congratulate Mr AVidyarthi;196900 and all other members of the forum who spent valuable time at Lakozy, New Delhi in listening to revolutionary concept in the form of wireless 3D surround sound system developed by us during last 2.5 years of strong R & D effort. Idea was to create a system which is simple, speakers almost like plugging into bulb socket (even grand maa can also do it) and create theater like sound effect right in your living room.
I sincerely thank all forum members to encourage our effort in India in creating something, no one has done elsewhere.
Fun is in listening to it in your living room which may not be symmetrical and acoustically friendly. That is where you and your family would love to see movies and listen to good music without restricting your viewing position or by necessarily fixed positions of speakers. In fact connect our speakers wherever you have the power socket.

Have connected with Bhatia and hopefully we should get a demo in Chennai by Dec 2nd week. Will post a detailed review for all you guys.

I am looking forward to it as the Klipsch LightSpeaker didnt impress me when I heard it in my friends place.

Asish/Bhatia: Welcome to HFV. Please do read the forum rules on dealer/seller posting. Looking forward to interacting with you all.

The concept is nice but I think they need to price this around a entry level receiver + comparable speakers (mind you this does not support HD decoding) but a plus is it accepts analog ins and again another demerit is no HDMI.

cant have everything .. and still expect entry level prices.. anyways i think the system will be good for folks who are not too fussy about movie audio and video quality ( and do not desire high sound quality levels for music ) but are fussy enough not to accept TV audio quality. It may be a good competition for the sound bars. I suppose AVR has a role to play in processing and decoding signals et al.. it just cant be written away.

It appears to be very imaginative effort which can light up a simple 2 BHK house with better than TV quality sound and i think thats where this product will sell. Many folks i know or i have seen in my residential area dont want too hi fi stuff.. but something where the daily saas bahu doses can be amplified and heard clearly across all corners of the room

:-))

would like to have a listen in Mumbai if possible sometime. Maybe then i can have a proper opinion or change some of the stuff i have written here.

Question - will this compete with the likes of Bose ?

mpw

Products like this should be evaluated against the price point and what value addition it brings to the table. Need to keep in mind the target audience for the product too. I guess no hi-end AV-Phile is going to replace his state of the art system with something like this.

I guess it is a great alternative to entry level home theatre systems and HTIB's. Great product.

Hi Ashish
Welcome to the forum. Glad to see you guys taking the product to all corners of the country, its time to start selling :D
I am sure that some feedback from the forum members may also help give ideas for future features that you can incorporate at a later date.

cheers

Great Stuff Ashish! i reiterate what i said when i first heard it - cant wait to get my hands on one of these!

Hi MBR,

Hope it is tied up for a detailed review soon. Waiting for some impressions from your end.

simply great concepts and technology.space concerned people must consider this package and also @reasonable price.

Well I am also of that viewpoint. This is primarily aimed at people who have a good stereo setup and want some decent sounds for movies. This is clutter free whereas the only drawback I found is that it does not decode the HD audio formats. Therefore it can be pitted with a similarly priced 2.0/2.1 system where the sound will be downmixed stereo whereas this will give the DD/DTS o/p.

Just now back from the Demo at NPS electronics bangalore. The person Nagaraj played a clip from Avatar. The sound was really good w.r.t movie soundstage the movement of sounds from the rear spks were clear and crisp. The dialogues had good prominence. Bass was moderate enough but the impact was felt.
He played a sound clip - mp3[Not sure what was the name of the track]. But it was normal listening, not upto the level of an audiophile amp/speakers. Bass was sufficient enough while playing the audio track.

When asked him about the specs, he didnt have any. Nor he had any details about the release date or price package.

The weight of each individual speaker were around 1 kg[with stand]. The Active subwoofer was approximately 2ft X 1ft X 1ft. With a bass port at the back [Not at the bottom]
The central wireless console[size of a digital radio clock], has inputs for Mic, Aux, Co-axial... No optical inputs, No HDMI inputs.

But overall better than the BOSE setup for movies. So guys if you are a movie buff, i suggest you to audition this, you will be really impressed.
This setup is not so good for stereo audio :o

Cheers,
Vincent

I personally see this quality of NO VANTAGE spot to be its biggest achievement. Just the way it is in the movie theaters.

Cinema halls create a 'vantage' spot for every few rows by having multiple surround speakers. Next time you visit a cinema hall, take a look at the side walls. You will see a row of speakers on both walls.

Cheers

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
