I recently bought WD TV Live Plus from abroad, it even plays with my CRT box, access is seamless , Plays almost all popular format. Also plays songs from i-pod, but it does not provide any interface for itune because of propriety material.

i meant if i have a LCD and a HTiB, than along with that, do i really need a good DVD Player (for upscaling or playing movies, DVDRips via USB etc.) or can i buy WDTV instead of the DVD Player ...

For regular use,WDtv is more than enough, but only thing that you cannot use DVD discs directly. You have to rip them & use.
Secondly a good DVDp(say oppo)can give better PQ than WDtv.-

Dear spirovious and experts,

Have recently purchased WD TV Live Plus and enjoying all soft form movies in it. When I was using laptop, I used to download the subtitles and drag and drop it on VLC media player while playing a movie and it used to work. Can someone suggest how can I use a separate subtitles file in WD TV live while watching movies.

Thanks.

Hi Kapil,

I use WDTC Live plus and I don't think its any different from WDTV Live plus in terms of functionality apart from Netflix. For getting subtitles you simply need to put the movie file and subtitle file in the same folder. Other things to watch for:
1. Make sure that movie file name and subtitle file name is same apart from file extension. e.g. if your movie file name is "avataar dvx lonely.avi", your subtitle file name should be "avataar dvx lonely.srt".
2. Go to video settings and switch "on" the subtitle option there. I am at office and don't remember the exact navigation. But let me know in case you are not able to find it. I'll tell you the exact navigation once at home.

Thanks

Thanks Amit,

As I understand, even if I have downloaded subtitles separately, I need to place the file in same folder as movie and manually change the name of .srt file to match name of movie file. Please inform if otherwise.

Thanks for your help.

One more thing, Does this player has any memory limitation for external HDD. If I buy a 2 TB HDD, will it work with WDTV. If yes, do we get USB powered (no external power) HDD in 2 TB. If yes, which are best options avaialble and at what prices.

Will appreciate if you or any other user can guide on the same.

Your understanding is right.

I have never heard or read anything about memory limitations about WDTV, I think even 2 TB hard disk should work with it. Still better to try before buying if possible. And again, the last time I checked there was no USB powered HDD available in 2TB category.
