Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player - a HTPC replacement??

Gurus,

I am facing a strange problem... I copied my original StarWars (Epi-IV) DVD using DVD Decrypter to my HDD. When I play these VOB files using WD TV, I do not get Dolby Digital in my AVR! My all other DVDs are working fine.. I am able to get DTS, DD through optical out without a problem!
I am not doing any decode/encode stuffy, just plain copy of VOBs from the DVD.
Please help...

1. In the WD TV setup menu, have you changed the settings to Audio - Digital?
2. How have you connected WD TV to your AVR?
3. When you play the vob, does the TV screen show audio (Digital)?

Thanks MBR!
Anyways the problem got resolved after I pulled out all power connections and plugged them in again. Still wondering why only this particular DVD had this issue!

Great. I have never had any problem till with my HTiB and WD setup, it plays all movies without any problem. May be some loose connection or something?

Have you connected the WD to AVR using optical?

My WD TV to AVR connection is by optical cable and WD TV to TV is HDMI.
I had not (completely) switched off my setup for almost a week.. may be something to do with this?
Happy that it's working great now :)

Always pls practise switching of your setup at least during night time. Helps reduce EB bill and also increase life of power circuits.

Yeah  In fact it's a bit complicated.. all my power points are behind the TV cabinet and a little difficult to reach. I am planning to get a good ext box and contribute to the green cause :)

Had the same problem, got an electrician and made him connect all the power lines behind the cabinet to two switches in my bedroom (which is behind the TV wall). So at night I just switch those two off.

I remember Venkar mentioning that colour reproduction by WD is not close to oppo980,can TV setting improve overall pic Q & come close to oppo?

I am happy with the colour production, so didnt try anything.

UPDATE: WD TV next firmware will be released this week. Eagerly waiting to see what they fixed or added.

LOL, sorry meant next week, got excited :)

100% count on it. Did a test between DVD direct files VOB vs H.264. Not even a little bit of difference between both. Will post detailed review in the backup thread.

Also, now-a-days I dont play DVD in my Philips, bcos the difference between WD TV and Philips is quite clear. These days, I encode my DVDs and play only on WD TV. Even my fiance was able to tell the difference.

The difference was quite obvious when we watched Blade Runner. Will post the review tomorrow in the backup thread.

Recently my friend had ripped Transporter 3 Dual layer DVD into a 4.36 Gb MKV file for me in his quadcore machine. However when playing back the MKV files the video freezes for a seconds (the video timer keeps running) and then suddenly starts playing again but the scene skips to the timer then being displayed. Is it possible to reencode the MKV to get rid of these freezes ?

Yup, run it through HandBrake or similar s/w once again. Should fix it. It usually works for me when voice is out of sync with the picture, but this is from a long time ago. New s/w always come up with a perfect rip without any issues.
