Which DTH HD provider should i go for?

I think Tata Sky is the best option. Reason for the same are

1) Customer care is undoubtedly the best in catagory

2) True HD channel with amazing 5.1 effect

3) Their hardware quality is better than others, I have a TS Hd+ and DVR is of

great quality & aesthetically very good.

4) And Last but not the least their HD channels will be increased in 4-5 months

after they shift to another advanced Transponder

Cheers

So far so good, but with the new regulation which will be implemented on 8th Oct you won't be able to enjoy such a freedom while watching HD. You need to have all the SD version of the channel to watch HD..

Could you explain what is this and how it will affect the customers ? If you are telling that one need to subscribe to an SD pack before addding HD channels, then I think, we can still select alll the channels a-la-carte

Yes you can select all the channels a-la-carte but it will cost you more. For example dhamal mix pack user dont have access to Star Cricket, ESPN, Star World & Star Movies .

To watch HD version of those either you need to move to a different pack which includes those channels or add them a-la-carte. So adding them a-la-carte would cost you extra

Star Cricket - 25
ESPN - 29
Star World - 20
Star Movies - 30

104 which you need to dish out to get access to HD version or you move to Grand sport pack which will cost you 130 extra and will also give you more channels.

Going forward there would be only HD access fees but no HD packs. I think its a catch -22 for tatasky as well as subscribers. One point its good as adding more HD channels (within a year count of HD channels may shoot upto 30-35) wont hurt you much on the contrary one will loose freedom.

Please read this thread from another forum. It will give you good insight.

New regulation to watch HD in tatasky - DreamDTH

+1 with Madan. If you are going for SD, a cable STB is a better option and provides more clarity than DTH. Please stick with it.

I also recently moved to Airtel HD and very happy HD channels, but SD is real pain.

So my current 'In Digital' cable STB has only AV out, and as far as I know InDigital cable doesn't have any plans to launch HD services in Bangalore any time soon.

I was under the impression that moving to any DTH HD STB will offer significant clarity to the SD channels, as it is now through HDMI out, rather than through AV. Wouldn't that be the case ?

It's weird! Given then Videocon DTH is far superior in its technology to Tata Sky, they still don't offer 5.1.
Chances are that after going HD you may soon want to experience 5.1 surround sound. My suggestions is to go for Tata sky. Their HD package is competitive and then you can add SD channels as a la carta. This works best for me, as i hardly view any SD and my monthly bill comes to Rs200. :yahoo:

Videocon D2H is testing 5.1 audio since last few days and will rollout dolby 5.1 surround sound in just few more days, got this info from my friends who are using videocon d2h and now they are can see 5.1 option but not enabled at present, not to forget videocon d2h has 22 HD channels when compared to tata sky's 10 channels and still videocon is cheaper and comes with better plans whereas tata sky was more expensive and now they have HD access fee since october .

Even if tatasky latest satellite launch is successful, it will take time for getting ownership of transponders and later testing will also take time, so dont expect many channel additions in next few months.

There will be slight improvement but not a whole generation next. The STB does not upscale TV signals.

Is it true that I cant subscribe to HD channels (with the 100 rs access fee) as a subscriber of make-my-pack?But I have to subscribe to HD channels on a la carte basis?
How pathetic and arbitrary is that for TATASKY to come with such ideas?

The d2h site has only one HD package (platinum HD) unlike a variety of packages by other service providers. is it true? Then how it is the economical ?

Absolutely false information.

Videocon d2h do have various addon HD packages. Namely
* Sports HD (55/- + 12.36% Tax= 61.80)
* Hindi Entertainment HD( 75/- + 12.36% Tax= 84.27)
* HD Globe- All 22 HD chanel (110/- + 12.36% Tax = 123.60)

Please check d2h website for further details.

Basis on my personal experience I would say that Dish TV is the best DTH service provider in India.
Their after sales services are fast and honest. And as far as the HD channel is concerned so I happy with image resolution of Dish TV is way better than Videocon and others.
This is all I am saying in comparison only, else as an individual I also had a nice experience of Videocon and Airtel.

People on this forum are prejudiced not to use Dish HD although it is by far one of the consistent performers in this market. Airtel customer care sucks big time and TS only has sugar coated customer care and nothing else. But yes I must try Videocon and hence cannot give any feedback.

I would never go for DISH HD. Considering, I have owned the SD for over 3 years and had really bad customer support.
The D2H wins my vote for being the most economical package alone with pretty good PQ. The HD Channels are sufficient for every type of user and the recent update brings video recording in Non-DVR STB.

Some genuine problems I have seen with the Airtel HD DTH :
The Package is quite expensive. By quite expensive, it is not worth the money paid. The quality is not that great.
Crappy Airtel Customer Care Support. Their new services are often stagnated with bad support services.
Problem in updates. Airtel did eventually launch the IPTV as the next big thing. But, now they discontinued it due to bad policing and lack of updated support(HD-Support).
They Promise too much, but give too less.

I haven't much used the TS so I do not comment about it. However, one of my friends owns it, and regrets after seeing the D2H. :cool:

Dish customer support has improved drastically since 2011 after they launchef HD pack. So unless someone can say they are not satisfied with support even in case of hd box recently I would not buy that.

Yes I do have heard that d2h is great vfm, but yet to see it somewhere .. will be on lookout though

I was Dish TV customer till 2011. I was quite happy with the service but switched to TS because of reportedly better HD pq.

One thing I could never forgive Airtel for taking off the Star cricket and ESPN HD channels. They have now told that they would bring back both the HD channels by February end. Let's see. Otherwise I found their service good and they also came to realign the dish in couple of hours as soon as I logged the complaint. For whatever reason IPTV would never take off. BSNL also launched it with much fanfare but shut it down within couple of months as the subscription base did not reach as they expected. The quality in HD channels are really good and nothing to complaint about SD channels.

It is good that Videocon is giving tough competition to TS and Airtel and probably if Airtel and TS does not revamp their marketing strategy and make it more customer oriented, it would be only a matter of time before Videocon emerges as number one in DTH.
