1st 5 go to metal/rock tracks for auditioning

More Desert Rock : Stoned meadow of doom (handle name of a person on youtube) posts a ton of stuff . One of the features of desert rock is the rawness of the guitar riff's and each instruments has its space.
More bands :
Queens of the Stone age (QotSa)
Iggy Pop and Josh Homme ( QotSa lead...)
Vista Chino
Orange Goblin

YouTube channel 'Frog leap Studio's has some high quality recording cover songs.
A guy from Norway, Leo Moracchioli who does all by himself (vocals, drums, guitar...n then stitch everything together) does cover of popular songs and give a metal flavor to it.
Highly recommend for auditioning metal songs.

one more list:
1. Tool - Lateralus
2. Nightwish - Ghost Love Score Live at Wacken (Amazing vocals at the end)
3. Tool - Pneuma
4. Rammstein - Feuer Frei
5. Immortal - All Shall Fail

Metallica - Sad but true (for level of details, timing and punch)
Jesu - Lifeline (for tonal character and harmonics)
My Dying Bride - The Cry of Mankind (can it really handle drums played loud)
Entombed - Couple of tracks from wolverine blues (how does it play rock n rolla)
White Zombie - Electric head pt 2 (the whole dynamics and energy)

will end the session with NIN - the fragile

Lovely metal twist to the classic. My metal days are long gone but loved it!

I have been mulling on starting a "covers" thread for a while now.
Been gathering links to interesting versions.
Maybe in a week or two I should have enough meat for a thread starter post.
Stay tuned ...
Cheers,
Raghu

Irrespective of the genre, my picks would be the following. I took these songs along while auditioning.
Brass Monkey by Beastie Boys
Hotel California
I'm Alive
Rosanna by Toto
The Train Song(Holy Cole)

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
